Setting a New Administrator Password on Your Satisfactory Server

Running a Satisfactory server involves a lot of behind the scenes work, and the admin password is the key that unlocks most of it. Adjusting world settings, uploading saves, kicking troublemakers: all of it lives behind that one credential. At some point you will want to rotate the password, either because a previous co-admin is no longer around or because the current one looks like a cat walked across the keyboard. This guide covers the process cleanly.

Updating the Password From the Client

Unlike many server settings, the admin password is managed through the Satisfactory game client itself rather than from the host control panel. Open the game on whichever platform you usually play on.

  1. From the main menu, click Server Manager.
  1. Find your server in the list and authenticate if prompted.
  2. Switch to the Server Settings tab in the top menu.
  1. Next to Administration Password, click Change Password.
  2. Type the new password, confirm it, then press Confirm.
  1. Open your HolyHosting control panel and restart the server.

Once the server is back online, the new credential is what will be required for any privileged action going forward.

Troubleshooting

The new password did not stick. This almost always means the server did not save and restart cleanly after the change. Reopen the Server Settings tab and confirm the password reads the way it was set. Then head to the control panel and verify the server completed a full restart. If the test happened mid boot, the previous credential may still have been cached in memory.

The admin password has been forgotten. Without a way to authenticate, the only path forward is wiping the existing server settings and starting fresh. Stop the server from your control panel. Open the FTP file manager and navigate to `/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/`. Delete the `ServerSettings.xxxxx` file. On the next boot the server will run through the initial setup again, allowing a new password to be defined from scratch. Save files are not touched by this, only the server configuration.
