How to Pick a Different Starting Biome on Your Satisfactory Server

Satisfactory·May 20, 2026·9 min read

Your spawn point in Satisfactory sets the tone for the entire playthrough. Each region offers a different mix of resources, terrain, and headaches. Open plains are forgiving, while desert dunes will quickly test your patience and your water management. This guide walks through the four available starting biomes and how to relaunch your HolyHosting Satisfactory world in the one you want.

The Four Starting Regions

Satisfactory currently ships with four officially supported starting zones. You can roam the entire map once it is unlocked, but only one biome can be selected at world creation.

Grass Fields

The recommended pick for first-time pioneers. Wide, mostly flat terrain makes it easy to lay down a base and read the lay of the land. The trade-off is distance: mining nodes are scattered, so outposts or long conveyor lines will likely come into play later in the run.

Rocky Desert

Another beginner-friendly option, slightly more interesting topologically. Resources, space, and travel distances are well balanced, and the shoreline is right there, which makes water extraction painless.

Northern Forest

Better suited for players who already know the early game. The terrain has noticeable elevation shifts and pockets of dense woodland, which forces you to plan vertically rather than sprawling. Resource density is high, so the real puzzle is layout.

Dune Desert

The hard mode of the four. Plenty of room and rich mineral deposits, but vegetation is sparse and water sources are rare. Early biomass and power setups are noticeably trickier than in the other regions.

Starting Fresh in a New Region

Swapping biomes means creating a new world. Existing saves stay tied to whichever region they were generated in, so plan accordingly.

  1. Launch Satisfactory and head to the main menu.
  2. Open the Server Manager and select your server.
  1. From the top tabs, choose Create Game.
  2. Click any of the four starting areas to highlight it.
  1. Enter a session name. Optionally tick the join box if you want to drop in right after creation.
  2. Hit Create Game and the server will spin up a fresh world in the biome you picked.

Troubleshooting

The starting area did not actually change. This usually means the server failed to load the new world. Repeat the steps above, double check that the correct biome is highlighted, and use a session name that does not clash with an existing world before pressing Create Game.

Cannot rejoin after a restart. If the server restarted before it saved, your client may refuse to connect. Open the Server Manager, head to Manage Saves, then Load Save, and pick the most recent valid file. If no saves exist, you will need to create a new world from scratch.

Switching biomes mid-campaign sounds drastic but only takes about a minute once you know where the menu is. Pick whichever region matches the kind of run you want and let the factory grow from there.
