Saving and Restoring Worlds on a Satisfactory Dedicated Server

Satisfactory·May 20, 2026·10 min read

Overview

Factory planning in Satisfactory rarely survives first contact with reality. Maybe a production line needs to be rebuilt, a layout went sideways, or a fresh checkpoint would make testing easier. Instead of dismantling everything one belt at a time, you can create manual server saves and load them later.

On a dedicated Satisfactory server, save management is handled through the in-game Server Manager. This lets you create restore points, roll back mistakes, or return the world to an earlier state without replacing files manually.

Create a Manual Server Save

  1. Launch Satisfactory from your usual launcher.
  2. From the main menu, open the Server Manager tab.
  3. Choose your server from the list.
  4. Enter the server password if authentication is requested.
  5. Select Manage Saves from the top menu, then choose Create Save.
  1. Find the current session, then select the +New Save name field.
  2. Enter a clear save name. Using a date or short description helps later, such as `before-oil-rebuild`.
  3. Click Save in the bottom-right corner.

The server will create a manual save file for that session. Keep the name practical, because future you may not remember what `test-final-final2` was supposed to mean.

Load an Existing World Save

  1. Open Satisfactory and go to the main menu, or open the pause menu while connected to the server.
  2. Select Server Manager.
  3. Choose the server you want to manage.
  4. Authenticate with the server password if prompted.
  5. Open Manage Saves, then select Load Save.
  1. Choose the correct session name.
  2. Select the save file you want to restore.
  3. Press Load Game in the bottom-right corner.

After the save loads, the server will switch to that world state. This is useful for undoing a bad build, returning to a clean checkpoint, or testing a factory redesign without committing to it permanently.

Common Problems

Failed to save game, game has an invalid filename

This error usually appears when trying to create a server save while not actually connected to the server world. Join the server first, then open Server Manager from the in-game pause menu and create the save again.

The loaded world looks wrong

If the world does not match what you expected, the wrong session may have been selected. Return to Manage Saves, open Load Save, and check each session name carefully. The save timestamps can help identify which session contains the world you meant to restore.
