Don't Starve Together Planar Weapons, Recipes, and Stats

Don't Starve Together·April 26, 2024·17 min read

Planar Weapons are built for tougher fights in Don't Starve Together, especially when shadow creatures start making ordinary damage feel a little too polite. Below are the recipes, stats, and practical notes for each Planar Weapon.

Planar Weapons in Don't Starve Together

Planar Weapons become available after opening the Lunar Rift or Shadow Rift. Each one deals Planar Damage, which increases total damage output against enemies and interacts with Planar defenses.

Brightshade Sword

  • Crafting Recipe: 4x Pure Brilliance and 3x Brightshade Husk
  • Damage: 38 to 41.8
  • Planar Damage: 30 to 35
  • Durability: 200
  • Perk: Deals 10% more damage to shadow creatures. With the Brightshade Helm, it also gains +10% normal damage and +5 Planar Damage.

The Brightshade Sword is one of the strongest all-purpose Planar options. It is easy to recommend because most characters can use it effectively, and the Brightshade Helm pairing pushes its damage even higher.

Brightshade Bomb

  • Crafting Recipe: 4x Pure Brilliance, 4x Brightshade Husk, and 1x Infused Moon Shard
  • Damage: N/A
  • Planar Damage: 200
  • Durability: N/A
  • Perk: N/A

The Brightshade Bomb is a consumable, so every use costs the item. In return, it deals a huge burst of Planar Damage to enemies and structures caught in the blast. Since only mobs and equipment with Planar properties can defend against Planar Damage, the explosion is not something most targets enjoy.

Brightshade Staff

  • Crafting Recipe: 3x Pure Brilliance and 6x Brightshade Husk
  • Damage: N/A
  • Planar Damage: 10 to normal mobs or 20 to shadow creatures
  • Durability: 50
  • Perk: Deals double damage to shadow creatures. With the Brightshade Helm, its projectile bounces between enemies 5 or 7 times.

Introduced in the From Beyond Update, the Brightshade Staff fires homing projectiles. Its single-target damage is lower than weapons like the Brightshade Sword, but bouncing shots make it useful for crowd control.

Brightshade Smasher

  • Crafting Recipe: 1x Pure Brilliance and 2x Brightshade Husk
  • Damage: 32.5
  • Planar Damage: 10
  • Durability: 600
  • Perk: Deals 10% more damage to shadow creatures, reduces hammering and mining actions, and gains +10% normal damage plus +5 Planar Damage with the Brightshade Helm.

The Brightshade Smasher behaves more like a tool than a dedicated weapon. It combines hammer and pickaxe utility, letting players mine rocks and break objects with one item. It can still hit enemies and apply Planar Damage when needed.

Brightshade Shoevel

  • Crafting Recipe: 1x Pure Brilliance and 2x Brightshade Husk
  • Damage: 17
  • Planar Damage: 10
  • Durability: 250
  • Perk: Digs and tills soil, deals 10% more damage to shadow creatures, and gains +10% physical damage plus +5 Planar Damage with the Brightshade Helm.

The Brightshade Shoevel is also more tool than weapon. It handles digging and soil tilling, but its damage is lower than the Brightshade Smasher.

Shadow Reaper

  • Crafting Recipe: 3x Pure Horror and 1x Dark Tatters
  • Damage: 38 to 41.8
  • Planar Damage: 18 to 47
  • Durability: 200
  • Perk: Works as both a combat weapon and a gathering tool.

The Shadow Reaper can fight or gather nearby pickable resources without manually selecting each one. In combat, it rivals the Brightshade Sword and can deal even higher Planar Damage when paired with the Void Cowl.

Its drawback is Sanity drain. Equipping the Shadow Reaper lowers Sanity by 0.06 per second.

Howlitzer

  • Crafting Recipe: 1x Spark Ark, 3x Brightshade Husk, 3x Pure Brilliance, and 3x Moon Rock
  • Damage: 34, or 25.5 when used by Wigfrid
  • Planar Damage: 34
  • Durability: N/A
  • Perk: Ranged weapon that uses Hound's Teeth as ammo.

The Howlitzer is a standout ranged Planar Weapon. It deals strong damage from a safe distance and does not consume Hound's Teeth, so carrying 1x Hound's Tooth is enough to keep firing. On a shared HolyHosting server, that makes it especially handy for group boss attempts where distance and consistency matter.
