How to Purify Murky Water in 7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die does not let you get away with bad hydration habits. Your character actually dehydrates over time, and the water you scavenge around Navezgane is almost always Murky Water. Chug it down raw and you can look forward to a dysentery debuff and a hit to the health bar. This guide walks through cleaning it up properly, and how to upgrade to Pure Mineral Water later on.

What You Need to Purify Murky Water

Turning Murky Water into safe Water requires three things:

  • A Campfire, crafted from 5x Small Stone.
  • A Cooking Pot, crafted at the Forge using 25x Iron and 5x Clay Soil.
  • Combustible fuel to keep the fire alive.

The fuel slot is more flexible than you might expect. Any of the following will burn:

  • Wood Log
  • Wood Blocks
  • Baseball Bat
  • Candy Cane Club
  • Steel Club
  • Claw Hammer
  • Leather Poncho
  • Denim Pants
  • Plant Fiber Clothing

Yes, your pants count. Survival logic.

The Purification Process

Place the Cooking Pot on the Campfire, load up your fuel, and drop the Murky Water into the cookware slot. After roughly 40 seconds, the bottle converts into clean Water.

Drinking that purified Water:

  • Restores +20 Hydration.
  • Grants +15% Stamina Regen.
  • Removes the +12% Dysentery Chance attached to Murky Water.

For reference, drinking Murky Water inflicts 5 health damage as of Alpha 21, so this short ritual is worth the seconds it costs you.

Tip: If you are testing builds or just messing around in creative, spawn commands and item IDs will skip the process entirely.

Crafting Pure Mineral Water

Regular Water keeps you alive, but Pure Mineral Water is the upgrade tier. A single bottle hits noticeably harder:

  • +60 Hydration
  • +15% Stamina Regen
  • 20% Dysentery reduction
  • Triggers the Efficient Digestion buff (-15% Water and Food Loss) for 5 minutes

To unlock the recipe, hunt down and read Wasteland Treasures Vol. 4: Water. Once it is in your skill book, craft Pure Mineral Water at a Cooking Pot over a lit Campfire using:

  • 1x Water
  • 1x Coal
  • 1x Goldenrod Flower
  • 1x Chrysanthemum Flower

If crafting feels like a chore, check Water Cooler bottles inside the basements of residential houses. They occasionally hold Pure Mineral Water as loot, which is convenient when you would rather be killing zombies than picking flowers.
