How to Find and Farm Mushrooms in 7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die·July 21, 2025·14 min read

Navezgane has plenty of loot waiting in its ruined buildings, but a few resources still make survivors curse the apocalypse. Mushrooms sit firmly in that category. They blend into the ground, hide in places you do not want to camp, and refuse to spawn when you actually need them. The good news is that once you understand where they grow and how to cultivate your own supply, the shortage problem solves itself.

Where Mushrooms Grow

The Burnt Forest biome is the main hunting ground for wild Mushrooms. Burnt trunks, ash, and patches of charred ground make these fungi tough to spot, so move slowly and scan the floor instead of the horizon. Caves are a secondary source, though spawns there are inconsistent enough that few survivors rely on them as a primary route. Even with friends sweeping the map on a 7 Days to Die server, foraging on foot tends to burn more time than it returns.

Why You Should Farm Them Instead

Eating a raw Mushroom by itself restores 2 Fullness and 1 Health, which is fine for a snack but a poor return on a rare drop. The smarter use is converting them into a Mushroom Spore Seed, planting that seed in fertile soil, and harvesting Mushroom Clumps on a steady cycle. One trip out, one indoor garden, and you stop relying on RNG forever.

The Spore Seed recipe is locked behind reading 16 copies of Southern Farming. Once unlocked, each seed costs 5 Mushrooms and 2 Clay Soil, with no workstation needed.
