7 Days to Die A21.2 Patch Notes: Death Penalty Mode and New Twitch Actions

7 Days to Die·September 10, 2023·17 min read

If you enjoy losing weeks of progress to a single zombie bite, the A21.2 update for 7 Days to Die was practically made with you in mind. The new patch introduces a configurable Death Penalty system, a batch of fresh Twitch bit actions, and a generous helping of bug fixes. Below is a clean breakdown of what changed and how to get it running on your server.

What's New in A21.2

The headline feature is the Death Penalty setting. It lets each server or save decide how harshly dying should sting. At the lowest end, death costs nothing: no XP loss, no hunger drain, no setback. Crank the slider up and the consequences scale, all the way to a true hardcore mode where dying wipes your character completely. Losing your progress and starting fresh is now an option you can actually opt into, rather than a glitch to avoid.

Alongside the new difficulty knob, A21.2 expands the Twitch integration with several new bit actions. Streamers and their chats can now trigger `#cacti`, `#mixup`, `#spoil_boxes`, and more. Some are mildly inconvenient. Others, like a wipe of all map waypoints, are openly hostile. Pick your audience accordingly.

A21.2 is still tagged as experimental, so expect a few rough edges. Back up your saves before patching anything you care about.

How to Install the A21.2 Update

Getting the new build is straightforward through Steam:

  1. Open Steam and head to your library.
  2. Locate 7 Days to Die in the list.
  3. Click the Update button in the game's panel to download A21.2.

Dedicated server admins should redeploy the build through SteamCMD after the client update is live. The full Steam announcement is available in the official patch notes.
