Valheim Trial of Tyr Hard Mode Contest: Rules, Dates, and Prizes

Think you have what it takes to clear every Valheim boss without breaking a sweat? The Trial of Tyr Hard Mode contest hands the most dedicated Vikings a public stage to prove it.

What the Trial of Tyr Is

The contest celebrates the Hildir's Request update. Competitors race through every boss in the game on Hard difficulty, finishing with The Queen in the Mistlands. The run officially ends the moment you set her head on the Ancient Stone Circle.

It is essentially a speedrun, but with a single brutal twist: dying voids the entire entry.

Submission Window

Entries open on August 22 and close on September 5 at 23:59 CEST. Anything submitted past that timestamp is ignored, so do not push your run to the final hour.

How to Enter

There are two valid ways to document your attempt:

  • Stream the full run on Twitch or YouTube.
  • Record the run from start to finish with no splits or cuts.

Pausing during gameplay is allowed, but the timer split starts the instant the pause menu appears and resumes when it disappears. No creative interpretations.

Once your run is ready, post the link to @Valheimgame on X (formerly Twitter) and include the hashtag #Trialoftyr in the message.

A quick note: read the full contest terms before you commit hours to a run. Iron Gate publishes the official ruleset for a reason.

Ruleset Summary

The full list of requirements participants need to respect:

  • Solo play only. No co-op, no external help, no third-party tools, no dev commands.
  • No exploits whatsoever. That includes item duping and clipping through geometry.
  • Control remapping is allowed in-game, but not through external software.
  • One death and the run is over.
  • Difficulty must be set to Hard.
  • The run must use a new character created for the attempt.
  • World seed is fixed: MX7L9GYcf2.

Stray from any of these and the submission gets tossed regardless of how fast the time is.

What the Winner Gets

The fastest verified run takes bragging rights plus a custom-engraved Viking tankard featuring the winner's name and completion time. No cash, no in-game cosmetics. Just a physical trophy you can drink mead from while telling the story.
