Valheim Megingjord Belt: Location, Cost, and Carry Weight Bonus

Valheim·April 3, 2025·7 min read

Hauling iron back to base in Valheim turns into a slow march the moment your pockets fill up. The Megingjord Belt fixes that problem with a hefty +150 weight bonus, borrowed straight from Thor himself in Norse mythology.

Where to find the Megingjord

The Megingjord is not a drop, a craft, or a chest find. It is sold exclusively by Haldor, the trader who sets up shop somewhere in the Black Forest biome. The catch: his camp spawns in one of 10 possible spots tied to your world seed, so its exact position is fixed for a given seed but different across worlds.

Once you locate the camp, walk up to Haldor and open his shop. The Megingjord costs 950 coins. Save up before making the trip, because nothing stings more than a long hike back to bank some extra silver.

Haldor's other inventory

While you are there, the rest of his shop is worth a look:

  • Yule Hat: 100 coins
  • Dverger Circlet: 620 coins
  • Ymir Flesh: 120 coins
  • Fishing Rod: 350 coins
  • Fishing Bait: 10 coins
  • Thunder Stone: 50 coins
  • Egg: 1,500 coins
  • Barrel Hoops: 100 coins

Spawning the belt directly

Server administrators and solo players running with cheats enabled can skip the merchant entirely. The console spawn command accepts the item ID `BeltStrength`, which drops the Megingjord at your feet without any walking, paying, or seed praying involved.

What the Megingjord does

Equipping the Megingjord pushes your maximum carry weight up by 150. That extra capacity translates to far fewer trips when mining copper, hauling stone, or moving freshly forged gear across the map. The belt does not affect the movement penalty from being over-encumbered, only the threshold at which it kicks in.

The trade-off is the accessory slot. Valheim only gives you one, and the Megingjord competes with two other strong contenders:

  • Wishbone: produces green particles when buried loot is nearby, useful for sniffing out silver veins and hidden chests.
  • Wisplight: clears the fog around you in the Mistlands, which is the closest thing to a flashlight the game offers.

Swapping between accessories is free, so most players keep all three and rotate based on the task. Mining run? Megingjord. Treasure hunt? Wishbone. Mistlands trek? Wisplight.
