Black Cores sit near the top of Valheim's crafting ladder, fueling several endgame stations that unlock the magic side of the game. The catch is that the biome guarding them tends to bite back. This guide covers where to find them, what to expect on the way down, and every recipe they slot into.

Black Cores only drop inside dungeons in the Mistlands biome. Specifically, look for Infested Mines, the underground network tucked beneath the Black Marble structures scattered across the region. If a cluster of Seekers is patrolling above ground, odds are you've found the right doorway.
Do not walk in casually. These mines are designed to ruin underprepared runs.
A few baseline preparations save a lot of headaches:
Inside, the menu of hostile residents includes Seeker Soldiers, Seeker Broods, and Ticks. None of them are polite, and the Broods enjoy ambushing players in clumps.
Infested Mines can stretch across as many as 96 rooms, so it pays to keep mental track of which corridors you've cleared. Black Cores spawn as rare drops in regular rooms, but they show up more reliably inside hidden chambers. The tell is simple: look for white rune markings near a wall or doorway. That usually flags a secret room worth opening.
Most mines yield at least two Black Cores per run, though a few stingy ones spawn none at all. Bring extra inventory space for everything else worth looting on the way out.
Three endgame stations require Black Cores:
Prioritize the Black Forge first. It unlocks the Carapace armor set and the rest of the Mistlands gear tree, which makes future mine runs far less painful. Next, set up the Eitr Refinery to start producing Refined Eitr, the key ingredient for magic recipes. Finish with the Galdr Table, which gives access to magical equipment like the Staff of Embers, the Dead Raiser, and the Eitr armor set.
