Ultimate Guide to Fix the "Exception in Server Tick Loop" Error 🔨

Minecraft·March 22, 2026·12 min read

This error can occur on any Minecraft server, whether Forge, Fabric, Spigot, Paper, etc. Basically, when your server gets "stuck" due to a problem in the tick loop, this error appears. 😱

Exception in Server Tick Loop

The main cause is usually corrupt .json🟡files. These files configure bans, administrators, whitelist, etc. Manually altering them can make them invalid. ⚠️

json

Example of a common problem:

  • Common error⚠️: Directly editing .json files.
  • Solution✔️: Use in-game commands like /op instead of manually editing files.

  1. Access your HolyHosting panel🖥️.
  2. Click on FTP File Access📂.
  3. Log in with your credentials📜.
  4. Select the files: banned-ips.json, banned-players.json, ops.json, usercache.json, whitelist.json.
  5. Delete them and restart the server.

Trying to join the server after this should resolve the problem. If it persists, there is probably another cause and we recommend contacting our support team.

Preventing these errors is possible by optimizing your server. Check our guides and make sure not to edit .json files manually.
