Tall grass in Minecraft is weirdly powerful. A zombie can stand behind it, your sword can clearly reach the zombie, and yet the grass often takes the hit like it has signed up for combat training.
SwingThroughGrass is a small Forge mod that changes that behavior. When you attack with a weapon, the swing passes through tall grass and connects with the mob behind it instead of breaking or targeting the grass first. It is a simple quality-of-life tweak, but it can make fighting in plains, forests, and overgrown areas feel much less clumsy.
The mod was created by exidex and is intentionally narrow in scope. It does not add new weapons, blocks, mobs, or complicated configuration. It mostly fixes one very specific annoyance.
SwingThroughGrass is a Forge mod, so the matching Forge version must be installed before the mod can load.
Make sure the Forge version matches both your Minecraft version and the mod file you plan to download. Version mismatch errors are boring, but Minecraft is very committed to making them happen.
Once Forge is ready, download the mod file.
SwingThroughGrass normally has no required dependencies, but it is still worth checking the file page before installation.
After downloading the mod `.jar`, place it in your local Minecraft mods folder.
If Minecraft crashes on launch, confirm that the mod file, Minecraft version, and Forge version all line up.
For multiplayer, the server needs to run Forge and have the mod installed too. Client-side installation alone is not enough for server play.
If the server fails to start, check that Forge is installed on the server and that the mod file matches the server's Minecraft version.
With SwingThroughGrass installed, weapon attacks ignore tall grass when a valid target is behind it. In the example below, the cow takes damage while the grass stays in place.

You can still hover over tall grass and highlight it. The difference is that weapons will not break it while attacking through it. Switch to a non-weapon item or an empty hand, and you can break the grass normally again.
SwingThroughGrass is useful because it does one job and stays out of the way. It keeps combat from being interrupted by tall grass without changing the rest of Minecraft's survival loop. For players who spend a lot of time fighting in grassy terrain, that small change can remove a surprising amount of irritation.
