Set Up a SkyFactory 4 Minecraft Server

Overview

SkyFactory 4 is a Minecraft 1.12.2 modpack built around skyblock survival, automation, magic, food mods, and long-term progression. With more than 200 mods included, it gives players plenty to do after the usual early-game island chores are finished.

The pack includes major mods such as Applied Energistics, Astral Sorcery, BiblioCraft, Chisels and Bits, Ender Core, Tinkers' Construct, Thermal, and many others. It also includes prestige and achievement systems, which can help track progress while giving multiplayer worlds more structure than a plain skyblock map. If vanilla skyblock starts feeling empty once the cobblestone generator is running, SkyFactory 4 solves that problem rather aggressively.

Server Installation

1. Open your server control panel and stop the server.
2. Find the server software, version, or JAR selection area.
3. Search for `SkyFactory 4` in the available modpacks.
4. Select `SkyFactory 4`.
5. When prompted, generate a new world.
6. Restart the server.

Generating a new world is important. SkyFactory 4 uses custom world generation, so loading an old vanilla world can prevent the modpack from starting in the intended skyblock format.

Client Installation

Players must install the same modpack locally before joining the server.

1. Download and install the official CurseForge launcher.
2. Open the launcher and choose `Browse Modpacks`.
3. Search for `SkyFactory`.
4. Select `SkyFactory 4` from the results.
5. Click `Install`.
6. Once the installation finishes, click `Play` to launch the pack.

After the game opens, add the server address through the multiplayer menu and join as usual.

World Configuration

If your server panel requires manual world settings, stop the server before making changes. Then open the server settings or configuration files and locate the fields for `Generator Settings` and `Level Type`.

Enter the correct SkyFactory 4 preset values in those fields. The finished configuration should look similar to this:

After saving the settings, generate a fresh world when prompted and restart the server. Without a new world, the server may keep using the previous world data and ignore the SkyFactory 4 generation settings.

Useful Multiplayer Notes

SkyFactory 4 includes progression features that are especially useful on servers. Prestige, achievements, and pack-specific commands can help groups track what has been unlocked and what still needs work.

The pack also supports a wide range of playstyles. Some players may focus on machines, energy systems, automated resource production, and wireless item transfer. Others may lean into magic, wands, movement upgrades, and protection tools. Eventually, even basic blocks can be generated at ridiculous speed, which is the point where storage becomes less of a convenience and more of a survival strategy.

SkyFactory 4 works well for multiplayer because it turns a tiny starting island into a long progression path. Players can build factories, automate cobblestone and resource production, create powered machines, move items between inventories, and unlock better travel options like jetpacks.

Common Issues

Missing Mod ID

Modded servers can sometimes pause during startup after worlds or mods have changed. If the console asks for confirmation, run `/fml confirm` from the server console.

The world loads as vanilla

This usually means the world type or generator settings were not applied correctly. Check the configured level type and generator settings, save the changes, generate a new world, and restart the server. Reusing an old world can keep the server from loading the SkyFactory 4 skyblock environment.
