A Valheim server password is useful, but it is not always enough if the password gets shared around. A whitelist adds a stricter gate by allowing only specific Steam accounts to connect. Anyone missing from the list stays outside the mead hall, even if they know the password.
This is helpful when you are building a private world, testing changes before inviting friends, or keeping the server limited to a trusted group.
Before editing the whitelist, collect the SteamID64 for each player you want to allow.

Repeat this for every player who should be able to join.
Once you have the SteamID64 numbers ready, update the Valheim whitelist file.

Add one SteamID64 per line. Do not place commas, spaces between IDs, or extra notes on the same line. The file should stay plain and boring, which is exactly how server config files like to live.

After adding the IDs, save the file and return to the main server page. Start the server again so Valheim reloads the whitelist.
To add another player, place their SteamID64 on a new line in `permittedlist.txt`, save, and restart the server. To remove access, delete that player's SteamID64 from the file and restart again.
After the restart finishes, only players listed in `permittedlist.txt` should be able to connect to the Valheim server.
