RLCraft Wood Gathering Guide: Flint, Plant Fiber, Hatchet, and Logs

Minecraft·July 27, 2024·7 min read

RLCraft changes Minecraft's first survival lesson immediately: trees do not politely become wood because someone punched them. Before gathering logs, players need flint tools, plant string, and a hatchet.

Step 1: Get Flint

Start by breaking gravel instead of trees. Each time a gravel block breaks in RLCraft, it has a 15% chance to drop flint. Gravel is usually easy to find near water, and the same gravel blocks can be placed and broken again until flint appears.

After getting flint, find exposed stone. Right-click the top of the stone while holding flint to turn it into flint shards.

Step 2: Make a Flint Knife

A flint knife is needed to gather plant fiber. Crafting one requires one stick and one flint shard. Sticks can be gathered early by breaking leaves until one drops.

Open the inventory with “E,” then use the small crafting grid. Place the flint shard in the top-left slot and the stick directly beneath it. That creates a flint knife, which is usually the first real tool in an RLCraft run.

Step 3: Gather Plant Fiber

Take the flint knife to a grassy biome and cut tall grass. This gives plant fiber, which is then crafted into plant string. Three plant fibers are needed.

Open the inventory again with “E.” Place one plant fiber in the top-left slot, one directly below it, and one to the right of the top-left fiber. This crafts plant string.

Step 4: Craft a Flint Hatchet

The flint hatchet requires one stick, one plant string, and one flint shard. In the inventory crafting grid, place the plant string in the top-left slot, the stick directly beneath it, and the flint shard to the right of the plant string.

Once crafted, the flint hatchet can finally chop trees. RLCraft makes players earn basic lumber. It is rude, but effective.

Step 5: Turn Logs Into Planks and Sticks

Use the flint hatchet on the lowest log of a tree. The rest of the tree should fall automatically, giving logs.

To make planks, place a log on the ground and right-click it with the flint hatchet. To make sticks, place planks on the ground and right-click them with the hatchet as well.

Getting Started With Wood in RLCraft

The full path is gravel, flint shards, flint knife, plant fiber, plant string, flint hatchet, logs, planks, then sticks. Once that loop is familiar, recovering after an early death becomes much less painful. Still painful, naturally. This is RLCraft.
