Restoring a Previous World on a Hytale Server

World damage happens. A creation tool can break more than expected, a build can vanish, or a file can be replaced by mistake. Backups give your Hytale server a way back without needing to rebuild everything by hand.

You can restore the entire server from a backup, or manually recover only one world from a downloaded backup file.

Hytale Server Backup Options

HolyHosting can keep automatic backups available for your Hytale server. A full restore brings back the saved server state from that backup, including worlds, player items, chunks, and related data.

If you only need one world, use the manual method instead. It takes a few extra steps, but it avoids rolling back every world on the server.

Restore All Worlds From a Backup

  1. Open your HolyHosting server panel and stop the Hytale server.
  2. Go to File Management and open Backups from the panel sidebar.
  1. Find the backup you want to use, then select Restore and confirm the action.
  1. Wait for the restore process to finish.
  2. Start the server again.

After the server starts, check the console for restore messages or startup errors. If the world loads correctly, you are back in business. If not, try an older backup, because the latest one may already include the problem.

Restore One Specific World

To restore only a single world, download the backup zip, extract it locally, and upload only the world folder you want to recover. Stop the server before replacing files.

  1. In the server panel, open your FTP client or the file manager.
  2. Log in with your panel password.
  3. Locate the backup zip file you want to use.
  4. Right-click the zip file, choose Download, and save it somewhere easy to find.
  1. Extract the archive with a tool such as 7-Zip or WinRAR.
  2. Find the world folder you want to restore.
  3. Upload that folder into the `universe/worlds` directory through FTP.
  4. Replace the existing folder if you are sure it is the correct world.
  5. Start the server and confirm the restored world loads properly.

Manual restores are useful when only one world is damaged and the rest of the server should stay unchanged. It is a little more hands-on, but still better than pretending the missing build was always supposed to be modern art.

FAQ

Why are there no backups in the backups section?

Automatic backups may have been disabled, or no scheduled backup has completed yet. Also check the file manager or FTP for zip files with timestamps, such as `2026-01-21_14-00-47.zip`. If backup files exist there, you can download and restore them manually.

Why did the backup not restore the world I wanted?

The selected backup may be too recent. Choose an older file based on its timestamp and try again. If none of the available backups contain the version you need, contact support so the available recovery options can be checked.

Can specific files or player data be restored?

Yes. Download the backup zip, extract it, and copy only the folders or files you need. After that, replace the matching files on the server through FTP. This can be used for a single world, selected chunks, or player data when you do not want a full rollback.
