Adjusting Time and Move Speed on a Hytale Server

Hytale·May 20, 2026·7 min read

Controlling how fast time passes and how quickly players move can completely change the feel of your Hytale world. Builders use it to skim through long projects, testers use it to stress check mechanics, and server owners use it to design new gameplay rhythms. Two short commands cover the whole job.

Before continuing, make sure your Hytale account has admin permissions on the server. Without them, the commands below will quietly refuse to cooperate.

Changing Time Speed

Time dilation scales the rate at which the world simulates: day and night cycles, plant growth, anything tied to the in-game clock.

  1. Launch Hytale and connect to your server using the admin account.
  2. Open chat and type `/time dilation [value]`. Accepted range is 0.1 to 4, with 1 as the default.
  1. Once executed, the world's pace shifts immediately.

The same command also works from the Console tab of your server panel, which is handy if you want to tweak the value without logging into the world first.

Changing Move Speed

Move speed is a per-character setting tied to creative mode, useful when you need to traverse large maps quickly or slow things down for filming and testing.

  1. Join the server with your admin account.
  2. Press O or run `/gamemode creative` in chat to enable creative mode.
  1. Open the inventory and locate the Move Speed slider. Range is 0.1 to 10, default 1.
  1. Apply the value and start zipping around, or crawling, depending on your goal.

Why It Matters

Speed values are not cosmetic. They shape how players experience the server, whether you are prototyping a custom gamemode, recording footage, or shortening the night to skip the slow parts. Because both settings can be adjusted on the fly, you can keep tuning them as your server evolves.
