Meet the Rascal: Minecraft's 2022 Mob Vote Hide-and-Seek Candidate

Minecraft·October 5, 2022·6 min read

Deep in the shadows of abandoned mineshafts and twisting cavern paths lives a small, sneaky creature hoping to win your vote. The Rascal is the second of three contenders for the 2022 mob vote, and it brings something the Overworld has never officially had: a built-in game of peekaboo.

Who Is the Rascal?

The Rascal is a neutral mob with one purpose: hide from you. It spawns underground in old mineshafts and natural caves, then sneaks between blocks until a player spots it. Catch it three separate times and it rewards your persistence with a little gift.

That gift, at least for now, is an enchanted iron pickaxe. Practical for early-game cave runs, less exciting once you have a netherite kit waiting in your storage room. Many fans have already pointed out that the reward gets stale fast, and Mojang may need to sweeten the prize pool if the Rascal wins. Rarer drops, scaling enchantments, or randomized loot are all on the community wishlist.

How to Cast Your Vote

Voting opens on October 14th at noon EDT and stays open for 24 hours. You can submit your choice through:

  • A dedicated Bedrock server
  • The Minecraft Launcher
  • Minecraft.net

One vote per Microsoft account, so no stuffing the ballot with alt accounts.

Where the Winner Gets Announced

The winning mob will be officially revealed during Minecraft Live 2022, Mojang's annual showcase event. The stream airs on October 15th at noon EDT on the official Minecraft YouTube Channel and at Minecraft.net/live.

Busy that day? A full recap will be ready the same evening.

Can the Rascal Beat the Sniffer?

Reactions to the Rascal have been mixed compared to its rival, the Sniffer. Hopefully Mojang addresses some of the reward concerns before polls open, because plenty of dedicated fans are already producing art and rallying support. Whether that energy translates into vote share is another question entirely. We will find out on the 15th.

Until next time,

HolyHosting =)
