Play Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6 and Set Up a Test Server

Minecraft·July 21, 2022·5 min read

Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6 arrived with a small set of changes, including sculk catalyst experience adjustments, chat signing improvements, and several bug fixes. It is not a huge feature drop, but it is useful for testing before release.

Main Changes in 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6

Sculk Catalyst Experience

Mojang noted that sculk catalysts were dropping too much experience. In this pre-release, they drop five experience instead of the previous 20. Anyone building around sculk experience farms probably felt that one.

Chat Signing Accessibility

The chat signing system also received accessibility improvements. The changes focused on color adjustments, making the system easier to read and use.

Bug Fixes

Like most pre-releases, this version included a collection of bug fixes. Notable fixes included thrown items causing unintended vibrations, issues with wool vibrations, and crashes caused by shift-clicking items into a chest at the same time as death.

Install Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6

Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6 is installed through the Minecraft Launcher. Mojang explains in the official pre-release blog that players should open the launcher and enable snapshots in the Installations tab.

After enabling snapshots, click New Installation, choose Latest Snapshot from the version drop-down, and create the profile. The new Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6 installation will then be available before pressing Play.

Back up any important worlds before opening them in snapshots or pre-releases. Test versions can corrupt old saves, and backups are much nicer than regret.

Make a Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6 Server

If you want to test the pre-release with friends, the server needs to run the same version as the clients joining it. Pre-release servers can be hosted at home, or you can use paid hosting for an easier setup and better performance.

Paid hosting is available from HolyHosting and many other providers. For either method, at least 4GB of server RAM is generally recommended.

Should You Try This Pre-Release?

Minecraft 1.19.1 Pre-Release 6 is mainly for testing tweaks and fixes rather than exploring brand-new content. Still, the sculk change, chat signing adjustments, and bug fixes make it worth trying if you follow development closely or want to prepare a server before the final 1.19.1 release.
