How to Play Cobblemon Multiplayer with Friends

Minecraft·February 21, 2025·6 min read

Cobblemon is best when friends can join the same world, trade stories, compare catches, and probably argue over who saw a rare spawn first. Before that can happen, each player needs the modpack installed, then the group needs to choose between a public server and a private one.

Install Cobblemon First

Cobblemon must be installed on the Minecraft client before joining a Cobblemon server or playing solo. The easiest method is the CurseForge App, which handles the required files and lets players launch the modpack with minimal setup.

Download the CurseForge App from the official site here. After installing it, open the browse section and search for "Cobblemon." Look for "Cobblemon Official Modpack [Fabric]" by CobbledStudios, then click Install.

When installation finishes, open the My Modpacks section and click Play. The video above provides a step-by-step walkthrough for anyone who wants the process shown visually.

Play Cobblemon with Friends

Once everyone has Cobblemon installed client-side, there are two main ways to play together. You can join a public Cobblemon server, or you can create a private server for your group.

A public server is easier to join quickly, while a private server gives the owner more control over settings, access, and the overall adventure.

Public Cobblemon Servers

Public servers have their own rules, plugins, and sometimes additional mods. The official Cobblemon website keeps a public server list here, which can help your group find a server that fits your preferred style.

After choosing a server, copy its IP address. Each player then opens Multiplayer in a Minecraft client running Cobblemon, adds or pastes the server IP, and connects.

Private Cobblemon Servers

Private Cobblemon servers can be home hosted for free, but paid hosting is usually simpler and performs better. Manual modded server setup can be more complicated when the proper server files and versions are involved.

At HolyHosting, Cobblemon can be selected from the Jar Selection Menu and installed with only a few clicks. Other hosts also offer paid Minecraft server options. Whichever route you choose, at least 3GB of server RAM is recommended.

Which Option Should You Choose?

Choose a public server if you want the fastest path into multiplayer and do not mind seeing players outside your group. Choose a private server if you want control over the world, access, and rules.

Either way, make sure every friend launches the same Cobblemon setup before joining. Most multiplayer problems begin with one person using the wrong version, because modded Minecraft enjoys keeping everyone humble.
