How to Find and Catch Xenovader and Xenogard in Palworld

Palworld·July 3, 2024·15 min read

The Sakurajima Update added two of the meanest looking Pals in the game so far: Xenovader and Xenogard. The catch is that you can wander the new island for hours without seeing either of them, because they do not roam the map like regular Pals. This guide explains exactly when and where they spawn, and how to actually catch them instead of getting flattened.

The Meteorite Event is the only way in

Both Xenovader and Xenogard are locked behind the new Meteorite Event. The event triggers at random times and marks itself on the Palpagos map with a meteor icon, so you do not need to camp any specific biome waiting for it to fire.

A few useful facts about how it behaves:

  • It usually drops fairly close to your current position, so traveling rarely matters.
  • The Pal that spawns is randomized. Selyne can appear instead, but only on Sakurajima Island.
  • If the event triggers anywhere outside Sakurajima, you are almost certainly getting a Xenovader pack or a Xenogard.
  • Meteorite Events double as the main source of Meteorite Fragments, so even a failed catch attempt is not wasted.

If you have a base on Sakurajima and one elsewhere, alternating between them is a decent way to cycle which Pals you encounter.

Beating and capturing Xenovader

Xenovaders are the common spawn during Meteorite Events. They arrive in groups and they hit hard, but every one you defeat guarantees a Meteorite Fragment drop. Those fragments feed the entire Meteor-tier crafting line, including the Xenogard Saddle and the Meteor Launcher.

Xenovader is a Dark-type Pal, so Dragon attacks tear through it. Strong Dragon partners to bring along:

  • Jetragon
  • Jormuntide (or Jormuntide Ignis)
  • Orserk
  • Astegon
  • Quivern
  • Chillet

Because they spawn as a pack, anything with area damage is worth its weight in Paldium. The Legendary Rocket Launcher is the cleanest answer, but grenades and AoE Pal skills also work if you are early game.

For the capture itself, whittle the target down to a red sliver of health before throwing your sphere. The Legendary Pal Sphere from the Assembly Line II is the best option you can craft. Recipe for one sphere: 10x Paldium Fragment, 5x Refined Pal Metal Ingot, 3x Carbon Fiber and 5x Cement.

Xenovader stats and work suitability

  • Element: Dark
  • Partner Skill: Meteor Mania. Increases damage dealt to ores while in the team and improves Meteorite Fragment drops.
  • Drops: Meteorite Fragment
  • Work Suitability: Lumbering Lv. 2, Transporting Lv. 2

Beating and capturing Xenogard

If Xenovader is the foot soldier, Xenogard is the boss. It spawns alone in a Meteorite Event, comes with a large named health bar at the top of the screen, and will probably ruin your day on the first attempt. You can think of it as the Xenovaders' angrier older sibling.

Xenogard is a Dragon-type, which flips the script: now you want Ice Pals on your side. A solid roster:

  • Frostallion
  • Cryolinx
  • Sweepa
  • Sibelyx
  • Penking
  • Chillet

Keep the same capture rule from before. Bring the health bar down to critical, then commit to a Legendary Pal Sphere. Throwing a basic sphere at full HP is just feeding the meteor crater with plastic.

Once captured, Xenogard becomes one of the better mounts in the game and pulls double duty in your base. It can also learn Beam Slicer, a Dragon attack with 130 base power at Level 50, and Icicle Line, a strong Ice move at Level 30.

Xenogard stats and work suitability

  • Element: Dragon
  • Partner Skill: Crater Enthusiast. Can be ridden. While in the team, easier to obtain Meteorite Fragment and Quartz.
  • Drops: Meteorite Fragment, High Quality Pal Oil
  • Work Suitability: Mining Lv. 3

Quick checklist before you head out

  1. Carry at least a stack of Legendary Pal Spheres.
  2. Build a Dragon team for Xenovader runs and an Ice team for Xenogard.
  3. Keep an AoE weapon equipped for pack fights.
  4. Watch the map for the meteor icon and warp to the nearest fast-travel point.

Do a couple of clean runs and you will be swimming in Meteorite Fragments, which makes the rest of the Meteor crafting tree trivial.
