Palworld Pal Capture Guide for New Players

Palworld·January 21, 2024·6 min read

Palworld fills its islands with creatures that are cute, useful, and occasionally very interested in ruining your afternoon. To bring Pals onto your team, you first need Pal Spheres and a little preparation.

Build a Primitive Workbench

Pal Spheres are the key item used to catch Pals, but they are not available the moment you spawn. Start by making a Primitive Workbench, since it unlocks the early crafting path you need.

Gather two Wood by picking up sticks from the ground or punching trees. Once the Wood is in your inventory, open the build menu with “B” on PC, place the Primitive Workbench, and build it in a safe spot.

Make a Pickaxe

Next, craft a Pickaxe at the Primitive Workbench. You will need five Wood and five Stone. Stone can be collected from loose rocks on the ground or by punching boulders, although your hands will not thank you for the second option.

After the Pickaxe is finished, use it on boulders. Mining becomes much faster, and you should begin collecting Paldium Fragments along with Stone. Those fragments are the important ingredient for Pal Spheres.

Unlock and Craft Pal Spheres

Palworld uses a technology tree, so recipes must be unlocked before they can be crafted. After the early gathering steps, you should have enough Technology Points to unlock Pal Spheres. Select the recipe in the technology menu, then return to the Primitive Workbench.

Each Pal Sphere requires three Wood, three Stone, and one Paldium Fragment. If you need more Paldium Fragments, look for blue rocks near the river close to the starting area. Craft several spheres before leaving to hunt, since failed throws happen often.

Throwing a Pal Sphere

Once Pal Spheres are ready, hold “Q” to enter the throwing stance. Aim at a Pal, check the capture percentage shown on screen, and release “Q” to throw.

That percentage is the chance of capturing the Pal if the sphere connects. Lowering a Pal’s health is the most reliable way to raise the odds, so weaken it before throwing. Positioning also helps. Tossing a Pal Sphere at a Pal’s back can increase the capture rate.

With a Primitive Workbench, a Pickaxe, and a stack of Pal Spheres, you have everything needed to start building your Pal collection. Just try not to get flattened by the first thing you attempt to befriend.
