Palworld Oil Rig Walkthrough: Reaching the Stronghold and Looting the Chests

Palworld·July 2, 2024·11 min read

The Oil Rig is the meanest postcode in Palworld. Added in the Sakurajima Update, this floating fortress melts unprepared Pal Trainers long before they can plant a flag on its deck. The trade off is real, though: anyone who survives the run walks away with some of the strongest loot in the game. Here is how to find it, get inside, and leave with full pockets.

Locating the Oil Rig

After installing the Sakurajima patch, open your map and look for a new structure sitting east of Marsh Island. That is your destination, and it is one of the few places in Palworld with no Fast Travel Point.

The only way in is on a Pal that can fly or swim. Slow mounts will not survive the approach, since the rig is bristling with turrets that lock on quickly. A Jetragon is the safest bet thanks to its raw speed. Jormuntide works if you want to come in from sea level. Whatever you bring, treat the final stretch like a strafing run: stay low, stay moving, and do not hover.

Preparing for the Raid

Even the perimeter of the Oil Rig hits like a tank battalion. Laser cannons, turrets, and hostile Pals all share the same target list, and the target is you. Line up the following before launching the attack:

  • Level 50 or higher. Below that and your gear ceiling is too low to matter.
  • Legendary Heat Resistant Pal Metal Armor plus the Cold Resistant counterpart. The combo keeps environmental damage in check while you focus on the actual fighting.
  • Legendary Rocket Launcher if you have crafted it. Nothing else clears clustered enemies faster.
  • A squad. A Palworld multiplayer session lets one Trainer pull aggro from the turrets while the others sneak onto the deck. Solo runs are doable, but the difficulty curve is brutal.

If you are missing any of these, finish the gear grind first. Charging in undercooked is the fastest way to feed your supplies back to the enemy.

Surviving Once You Land

You cannot actually clear the Oil Rig. Enemies respawn on a timer, so a successful run is about looting the chests before the place rebuilds itself. Move with that goal in mind and you will avoid wasting resources on fights that do not pay out.

The first priority is the turret control consoles. Each turret has one stationed beside it. Interact with the console to shut the gun down, and you instantly remove a huge chunk of the incoming fire.

Next, focus on the Gatling Guns along the borders. Stay on foot for this part. Mounted Trainers take bonus damage from automatic fire, which catches a lot of new visitors off guard. Strafe between cover, fire your strongest weapon, and pick the guns off one at a time.

The deck is also patrolled by hostile humans and Pals carrying endgame weaponry. They will shred unsupported players in seconds. Two reliable ways to thin the crowd:

  1. Drop a Legendary Rocket Launcher round into the densest group.
  2. Send out a Pal with a strong AoE attack. Grizzbolt, Relaxaurus Lux, and Jormuntide Ignis are the usual choices.

Once a section is quiet, sweep it for the large treasure chests. Their spawn points are randomized and rotate roughly every hour, so memorizing positions is pointless. Crack open every chest you can reach. Typical contents include:

  • Crude Oil
  • Ancient Civilization Core
  • Ammunition (random type and quantity)
  • Lotus (random)
  • Late-game weapon schematics

Getting Out Alive

When the chests are empty, or your nerves are, it is time to leave. You can mount a fast Pal and fly out the same way you flew in. The cleaner option is Dogen's Partner Skill, Homeward Prayer. Activating it teleports your entire party to the nearest base in one go, which is exactly what you want when half the rig is still shooting at you.

Loot, regroup, refit, and come back once the chests respawn. The Oil Rig is the kind of place that rewards repeat visits, and each successful run pushes your gear another notch closer to the late-game ceiling.
