Holy Team

Neptilius is one of the harder Water Pals to add to your roster, mostly because it does not show up wandering around like a regular catch. It exists as an Alpha Boss, and it hits like a tidal wave with a grudge. If you want this Legend of the Seas on your team (or just want bragging rights), this guide covers where to find it, how to breed it, and how to bring it down without losing half your party.

Since the Tides of Terraria Update landed, Neptilius only spawns as an Alpha Boss. There is no wild version, no rare encounter in tall grass, no roaming spawn point to camp. You will find it inside an exclusive boss dungeon on the Isle of the Glacial Core, located west of the desert biome.

Fast travel to the closest waypoint, sail or glide over, and head straight into the dungeon entrance. The fight starts the second you step inside, so do not wander in mid-inventory check.

If grinding the boss is not your idea of fun, the Breeding Farm gives you an alternate route. Neptilius hatches from a Huge Damp Egg, but the same egg can also produce Suzaku Aqua or Faleris Aqua, so RNG is in the driver's seat unless you stack the odds.
To guarantee a Neptilius hatching:
The catch, of course, is that you need two of them first. Most players catch one through the boss fight and breed from there.

Neptilius is a Level 60 Water Pal, which means Electric attacks are your best friend. Before stepping into the dungeon, swap your team to your strongest Electric-types. Solid picks include:
Also bring a Beakon if you have one. Its Partner Skill, Thunderous, adds Electric damage to your attacks while you are riding it. Mount up, charge in, and let the lightning do its job.
Keep your distance when Neptilius starts winding up wide attacks, and burst it down whenever it commits to a long animation. Once its HP drops to a sliver, throw an Ultimate Sphere. Lower-tier spheres will technically work, but at Level 60 the capture rate is not generous, and watching a Hyper Sphere bounce off is a special kind of pain.
Neptilius is a punishing fight, but once it joins your team it pays back the effort with strong Water coverage, useful traversal, and one of the more dramatic exclusive skills in the game. Pack Electric Pals, bring Ultimate Spheres, and do not get cocky in a fight you are losing. The ocean does not negotiate.
