Honey looks like a niche ingredient until you try to bake a Cake. Suddenly your entire breeding operation depends on yellow goo from angry bees. If you want to keep hatching eggs and craft a few useful items along the way, you need a reliable Honey pipeline.

You have two real options in Palworld: take Honey from wild Pals that drop it, or convince one of those Pals to work for you at a Ranch. Hunting gives you a fast injection of resources. The Ranch turns Honey into a passive income stream.

A handful of wild Pals drop Honey when defeated or captured. These are the ones worth targeting:
Cinnamoth is the easiest entry point, since it shows up early and goes down without much fuss. Beegarde is your most efficient farm target overall, but be careful: it has the Implode ability and will detonate on you if you let it. They also tend to patrol in groups of three, so bring better armor than you think you need.
Save Elizabee and Warsect for later in your run. Elizabee is an Alpha Pal encounter, and Warsect tends to be high level, so neither pairs well with starter gear.

Capturing a Beegarde and assigning it to your Ranch turns it into a renewable Honey machine. As long as the Pal is healthy, awake, and not pulled off to another workstation, it keeps producing Honey while you focus on other things. Look for Beegardes in the region around the Free Pal Alliance Tower.
This is the setup most players settle on once they get tired of chasing bees across cliffs.
The main reason anyone hoards Honey is Cake, the breeding ingredient used at the Breeding Farm. Without Cake, two Pals in the station will refuse to produce eggs and just stand idle around the structure.
Cake recipe:
Cake also takes a while to cook. Assign a Pal with a high-level Kindling trait, like Jormuntide Ignis, to the cooking pot to cut the timer significantly.
Honey shows up in other recipes too:
One useful patch note: since Steam Patch v0.1.4.0 (Xbox Patch v0.1.1.3), Pals assigned to the Breeding Farm no longer get hungry or wander off to other workstations. You can leave them there without micromanaging.
If you want a working strategy: capture a Cinnamoth early for a starter stash, then bag a Beegarde and put it on your Ranch the moment you can survive its kamikaze habit. After that, Honey stops being a bottleneck and Cake production runs on its own.
