Minecraft oceans can feel a little empty once you have seen the same vanilla monument a few times. YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments changes that by replacing the standard structure with a much larger, more detailed version for Forge or Fabric. These monuments are packed with extra rooms, more guardians, better loot, and enough underwater confusion to make a door-to-door map salesman reconsider his career.
If you want a bigger ocean challenge on a modded Minecraft server, this guide explains how to download the mod, install it on your client, add it to a server, and understand what changes once the new monuments generate.
Start by downloading the version of YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments that matches your mod loader.

You also need the correct dependencies for your loader:
Download the matching versions of those files before continuing. The mod will not work correctly without them.
Before adding the mod, install either Forge or Fabric for the Minecraft version you selected. Once the loader is ready, place the mod files into your client mods folder.

Return to the launcher and start the modded profile. If Minecraft reaches the main menu without errors, the client-side setup is complete.
To play with friends, the server must use the same mod loader and compatible mod versions as the client. Set the server to Forge or Fabric first, then upload the mod files.

New monuments only appear in newly generated terrain. Existing ocean chunks will not magically rebuild themselves, which is probably for the best.

YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments makes ocean monuments much larger and more involved than the vanilla version. Finding one naturally can still take time, since the mod does not make them appear everywhere. If you have operator permissions, the `/locate` command can help you find one faster.
Once found, expect a tougher underwater dungeon with more paths, more rooms, and more guardians waiting around corners.
The first major difference is scale. These monuments are much bigger than their vanilla counterparts, with multiple entrances and a more complex exterior design. Sea lantern posts help point toward the main entrance, while guardians patrol the surrounding water.

Bring proper gear before entering. Water breathing, respiration, depth strider, night vision, and strong weapons all help. A casual swim can turn into a very short expedition if several guardians lock onto you at once.

Inside, the monument becomes more maze-like. Rooms vary in size and connect through multiple passages, so it is easy to lose track of where you entered. Some areas include dripstone, large chambers, sponge rooms, and special central structures.
Certain rooms may contain a trident, while others can hold an elder guardian instead. The deeper you go, the more dangerous the monument becomes. Guardians are common throughout the structure, and mining fatigue can make escaping or gathering blocks difficult until the elder guardians are defeated.

Keeping a clear route back to the exit matters. Running out of air in a giant underwater maze is not a noble ending.

Because the structure is much larger, there are also many more regular guardians inside and around it. The number of elder guardians stays closer to vanilla expectations, but reaching them is harder because of the extra rooms and hostile mobs between you and the objective.
This makes the monument feel more like a full dungeon instead of a quick loot stop. Groups of players should split jobs carefully, with some clearing guardians while others handle navigation, air management, and loot routes.
Hidden gold blocks can still appear inside the monument, but mining them usually requires removing mining fatigue first. That means defeating the elder guardians is often the best first goal.

You can also find useful blocks and items such as wet sponges, tridents, gold, and sometimes other ocean-themed rewards depending on your version and setup. Sponges are especially valuable because they are difficult to obtain elsewhere.
YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments is a strong choice for Minecraft Forge or Fabric servers that need more exploration content. It keeps the idea of vanilla ocean monuments, then expands them into bigger, more dangerous structures with better reasons to prepare properly.
With HolyHosting, set your server to the right mod loader, upload the mod and dependencies, restart, then generate fresh terrain. After that, gather friends, pack underwater gear, and start hunting for the upgraded monuments.
The mod has versions for Forge and Fabric across multiple Minecraft releases, including many builds from 1.18.2 through 1.20.4. Always match the mod file, loader, and dependencies to the exact Minecraft version you are running.
Yes. Forge requires YUNG's API. Fabric requires YUNG's API, Fabric API, and Cloth Config API. Missing dependencies usually cause launch errors or prevent the mod from loading.
They only generate in new chunks. Create a new world for the simplest setup, or travel far enough from explored areas so the server can generate fresh ocean terrain.
