Tekkit Minecraft Server Guide

Tekkit is one of the classic names in Minecraft modpacks, built as the follow-up to Tekkit Classic. It runs on Minecraft 1.6.4 and includes 101 mods, with a heavy focus on machines, automation, power systems, storage, and space travel.

The early game still feels familiar: punch trees, make tools, mine ore, try not to fall into a hole with confidence. From there, Tekkit branches into factories, powered equipment, Galacticraft rockets, pocket dimensions, and enough machines to make your base look like it needs a safety inspector.

Tekkit works especially well for a small group of friends sharing resources and dividing up the tech tree. This guide covers installing Tekkit on your Minecraft server, installing the client through Technic Launcher, and the main gameplay goals to expect.

Install Tekkit on the Server

  1. Open your server panel.
  2. Find your panel's version dropdown.
  3. Open the dropdown menu, then search for Tekkit.
  1. Select Tekkit, then apply the version change.
  2. When prompted, create a new world if possible. This helps prevent conflicts from old world data.
  3. Restart the server so the modpack can fully load.

Install Tekkit on Your Computer

  1. Download and install the Technic Launcher from the official Technic website.
  2. Open the launcher and go to Modpacks.
  3. Search for Tekkit.
  4. Select the modpack, then click Install.
  5. Once the installation finishes, press Play.

The server and every player joining it must use the same Tekkit modpack. If the client is missing mods or using a different pack, the connection usually fails.

Starting Out in Tekkit

When you first spawn, progression is close to normal Minecraft. Gather wood, craft basic tools, mine stone, and work up to iron gear. Once you have an iron pickaxe and a safe base, start looking for Tekkit's added ores and materials.

Important New Ores

Tekkit adds several resources that feed into its technology and space systems.

Gems

Ruby, sapphire, and peridot appear in their own ore blocks. These gems can be crafted into tools and other materials, and some gem tools can outperform diamond tools in certain situations.

Copper

Copper is commonly found around Y-level 40 and above. It is used throughout Galacticraft, Atomic Science, Thermal Expansion, and other technology mods.

Tin

Tin is another core material, usually appearing between Y-level 35 and 50. It is useful in many of the same systems as copper, including Thermal Expansion, Galacticraft, and MineFactory Reloaded.

Aluminum

Aluminum ore can generate from Y-level 0 to 45. It is especially important for Galacticraft recipes, though it has fewer uses outside that mod.

Better Weapons and Tools

After collecting gems, crafting gem tools is a practical early upgrade. They are simple, durable, and useful while you prepare for more complex machines.

Later on, modular powersuits and Redstone Arsenal gear become stronger options. Items such as the flux pickaxe can be charged with power and boosted with the V keybind, letting you mine faster once your energy setup can support it.

Preparing for a Rocket

Galacticraft is a major part of Tekkit, so building a rocket is one of the main long-term goals. Before you can launch, you need several machines and components.

Compressor

The compressor creates heavy-duty plating and compressed metal plates. It requires 6 aluminum, 1 copper, 1 anvil, and 1 basic wafer.

Coal Generator

Most Galacticraft machines need power. The generator converts coal into energy and requires 4 iron, 1 furnace, 1 aluminum cable, and 3 copper.

Fuel Loader

The fuel loader transfers fuel into the rocket when connected to the launch pad. It requires 5 compressed steel, 1 tin canister, 2 compressed aluminum, and 1 basic wafer.

NASA Workbench

The NASA Workbench is where rockets are assembled. It requires 4 compressed steel, 1 crafting table, 2 levers, 1 redstone torch, and 1 advanced wafer.

Refinery

The refinery turns oil into usable rocket fuel. It requires 2 copper canisters, 2 stone, 1 furnace, and 2 compressed steel.

Building and Launching the Tier 1 Rocket

Tier 1 Rocket

The rocket recipe is large. A Tier 1 Rocket needs 8 heavy-duty plates, 4 rocket fins, 1 nose cone, and 1 rocket engine.

Use the NEI menu in your inventory to check recipes. Search for a part at the bottom of the inventory screen, then right-click it to view the recipe chain.

Launch Pad

A launch pad is crafted with 3 compressed iron above 3 iron blocks. This gives 9 launch pad blocks. Place them in a 3 by 3 square in an open area, then place the rocket on top.

Takeoff

Place the fuel loader next to the launch pad, power it, and add fuel. Before leaving, bring a parachute, oxygen gear, and oxygen tanks. Space is not forgiving, mostly because it has no air.

When everything is ready, enter the rocket and press Space to launch toward the Moon.

Dimensions Worth Visiting

The Moon

The Moon is the first major destination for a Tier 1 rocket. It includes dungeons, bosses, and schematics needed to progress toward a Tier 2 rocket.

Mars

After building a Tier 2 rocket, Mars becomes available. It has more dungeons, dangerous mobs, bosses, and better rewards for players who survive the trip.

Dimensional Doors

Dimensional Doors adds pocket dimensions throughout the Overworld and lets players create their own. These areas can be dangerous, so enter prepared.

MystCraft Worlds

MystCraft allows custom worlds with selected attributes. Always create a linked book back to the Overworld before experimenting, or you may end up stranded.

Common Tekkit Server Issues

I get an error when joining the server.

This usually means the Tekkit modpack is not installed correctly on the player's computer. Install the official Tekkit pack through Technic Launcher and make sure it matches the server.

The server is stuck while loading.

This can happen when mods are removed from an existing world. In the server console, run `/fml confirm` to force the world to load with the missing mods removed.

Modded items appear in creative, but do not spawn on the server.

The server may not be running Tekkit correctly. Recheck the selected server version in your panel, apply Tekkit again if needed, and restart the server.

Final Notes

Tekkit remains a strong modpack for players who enjoy automation, machines, dimensions, and space exploration. It is older, but its mix of technology mods still creates a satisfying progression path from basic tools to rockets, Mars trips, and custom worlds.
