When launching a Minecraft server, the last thing anyone wants is to encounter a console error that prevents the server from running properly.
Unfortunately, this can happen quite often and for a variety of reasons.
One of the less common but frustrating issues you might encounter is the “Failed to Bind to Port” error. This Minecraft server error occurs when a server attempts to use a service port (for example, 25565) that’s already in use by another process or server. Since most Minecraft hosting providers operate on shared IP addresses, the only way to make each server accessible is by assigning it a unique port.
Failed to Bind to Port
**** FAILED TO BIND PORT!
The exception was: java.net.BindException: Address already in use
Perhaps a server is already running on that port?
These are the messages you’ll see when this error occurs. When this happens, the server won’t start properly, and no players will be able to connect.
How to Fix the “Failed to Bind to Port” Error
If you don’t host your server with Holy Hosting, you’ll need to configure your Minecraft server to use a different port — one that’s open and not currently in use by any other service.
However, if you’re using a shared hosting plan, you should contact your hosting provider’s support team and let them know your server is encountering a “Failed to Bind” error. They’ll be able to resolve the issue on their end.
