Minecraft Pale Oak Guide: Pale Garden Trees, Creaking Hearts, and Blocks

Pale oak trees are one of the signature additions tied to the Garden Awakens content in Minecraft 1.21.4. They bring a washed-out wood set, eerie foliage, and the occasional creaking heart hidden inside. Charming, if your ideal forest looks haunted before breakfast.

Pale Oak Tree Basics

Pale oak trees generate only in the pale garden biome, which is a dark forest variant added in Minecraft 1.21.4. Their trunks are usually two-by-two pale oak logs, similar in footprint to dark oak trees.

The leaves use a gray and black palette, while pale hanging moss can appear beneath them. The result is a forest that looks almost monochrome compared with the rest of Minecraft's brighter biomes.

Some pale oak trees naturally contain a creaking heart, but not every tree has one.

How Creaking Hearts Work

When a pale oak tree generates with a creaking heart, it can spawn a creaking at night. That creaking patrols within a 32-block radius around the tree.

Creakings are hostile and immune to damage. They chase players they detect, but they cannot move while they are on screen. Keep them in view and they become much easier to manage.

Attacking a creaking reveals a particle beam leading back to its connected creaking heart. It also causes resin clumps to appear on nearby pale oak logs around the heart, helping players find it.

Destroying the creaking heart drops 1 to 3 resin clumps and despawns its linked creaking. A Silk Touch enchanted axe can collect the creaking heart itself instead of breaking it.

Pale Oak Blocks and Items

Pale Oak Sapling

Pale oak saplings work like dark oak saplings. Place four saplings in a two-by-two square to grow a pale oak tree. They can be found in pale garden biomes or bought from wandering traders.

Pale Oak Log

Pale oak logs have gray bark and pale white wood. Using an axe to strip the log removes the bark and leaves the pale interior exposed.

Pale Oak Leaves

Pale oak leaves use gray and black coloring and can be collected with shears. Mechanically, they behave like other leaf blocks.

Pale Hanging Moss

Pale hanging moss may generate below natural pale oak leaves. It can grow when bonemeal is applied, and it requires shears or Silk Touch to collect.

Pale Oak Planks

Pale oak planks are part of a full pale oak wood set. The set includes boats, buttons, doors, fences, fence gates, hanging signs, planks, pressure plates, signs, slabs, stairs, and trapdoors.

Creaking Heart

Creaking hearts can appear naturally inside pale oak trees. They can also be crafted with a block of resin and two pale oak logs. A crafted creaking heart functions the same way as a naturally generated one.

Resin Clumps

Resin clumps can form on pale oak logs around a creaking heart when the connected creaking is hit. They can be crafted into blocks of resin or smelted into resin bricks.

Resin bricks support a full brick set, including a chiseled variant, slabs, stairs, and walls.
