Minecraft was already looking ahead to a busy 2022 with The Wild update, but the end of the current year still had plenty happening. Minecraft Dungeons had a major seasonal feature on the way, and Caves and Cliffs Part 2 finally had an official release date.
Minecraft Dungeons had received several DLC releases after launch, but Cloudy Climb was built differently from the usual content drop. It was planned as a free adventure with seasonal updates, giving players new challenges and rewards to chase.
Cloudy Climb centers on a procedurally generated tower challenge. Players who survive the climb earn Adventure Points, which move them along the rewards path. The update also includes progression systems, emotes, cosmetics, and other seasonal rewards.
Players who want to unlock the best rewards faster can buy the Adventure Pass, which adds a premium reward track. The tower still has to be cleared, of course. The pass does not aim for you, which is probably for the best.
Season 1 of Cloudy Climb was set to go live on December 14th. To see more, watch the trailer here.

While many Minecraft fans were already watching for 1.19 The Wild, the final portion of Caves and Cliffs was scheduled to arrive first. Caves and Cliffs Part 2 received an official release date of November 30th.
Mojang split Caves and Cliffs so the team could meet deadlines with less crunch. The more complex procedural world-generation changes were moved into Part 2, which made this release especially important for how Minecraft worlds would feel from the moment they were created.
The update brought the major mountain and cave generation changes originally associated with Caves and Cliffs. Some features, including the Warden and Skulk Blocks, were delayed beyond this release and moved to 1.19 The Wild.
Even with those delays, Caves and Cliffs Part 2 was positioned as a major update for exploration. New terrain generation meant fresh worlds would look and play differently right away, especially for players who enjoy building bases around dramatic landscapes.
The update was scheduled to launch on the same day for Bedrock Edition and Java Edition across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux.
