The Nether Update changed Minecraft's hottest dimension from a place players hurried through into a place worth exploring, looting, and sometimes living in if they enjoy poor life choices.
Below are the major additions from the update, including the new biomes, mobs, and resources that reshaped the Nether.

The old Nether biome still exists, but the update added several distinct areas that change how players travel and survive. Each biome has its own hazards, useful blocks, and reasons to visit. Together, they make the dimension feel less like one endless red cave and more like a dangerous region with different routes, risks, and rewards.
Basalt Deltas are volcanic, gray, jagged, and rough to cross. Lava pockets, basalt, blackstone, and magma blocks define the area. It is not the friendliest biome, but it is useful for gathering raw materials and has a disaster-zone atmosphere no other Minecraft biome quite matches.
Crimson Forests cover the Nether in red fungi, crimson nylium, crimson roots, and crimson vines. They are dangerous, but they are also practical. Players can find hoglins for food and piglins for bartering, making this biome one of the most important stops for Nether survival.
Soul Sand Valleys are beautiful in the way a trap can be beautiful. Soul sand slows movement, soul fire burns across the terrain, and hostile spawns such as ghasts and endermen make travel risky. The blue fog and cavern-like layout are memorable, but entering unprepared is a quick way to donate your inventory to the landscape.
Warped Forests are among the safest Nether areas because hostile mobs do not naturally spawn there. Striders and endermen can appear, and hostile mobs may wander in from nearby biomes, but the warped plant life offers a calmer place to build or regroup. The tradeoff is food, since the biome does not provide a steady natural source outside of wandering hoglins.

The update also introduced creatures that make the Nether feel more active. Some can be fought, some can be used, and some should be treated as a problem with legs. Server latency is very crucial when it comes to different areas of computing where instant response is needed, especially when combat timing matters against these mobs.
Hoglins are aggressive boar-like mobs that provide a reliable Nether food source. That makes long-term survival more realistic, provided players can actually defeat them. They are especially relevant in Crimson Forests, where food and danger show up in the same package.
Piglins bring a social system to the Nether. They can be hostile, but wearing gold helps players approach them safely enough to barter. Be careful with normal actions around them, though. Opening containers can make them think you are stealing, which usually ends exactly how it sounds.
Piglin Brutes are piglin variants that stay hostile and do not barter. Unless the plan is to fight, avoiding them is usually the smarter option.
Striders are passive mobs that can carry players across lava when handled properly with warped fungus. They are not quite pets, but in the Nether, a calm lava ferry counts as a meaningful friendship. They can also drop string if killed, though that is a grim way to treat the only creature helping with transportation.
Zoglins are undead hoglins created when hoglins spend too long in the Overworld or The End. They attack most mobs and drop rotten flesh instead of porkchops, so fighting them is rarely the efficient food plan.

The Nether Update added several resources and blocks, with Netherite being the headline reward. Netherite ingots can upgrade diamond gear into stronger Netherite equipment, making the Nether a key part of late-game progression.
Other notable additions include target blocks, which can be activated by arrow shots for redstone builds, and Nether gold ore, which drops gold nuggets and helps players maintain enough gold for piglin interactions.
Beyond those major items, the update added many decorative and functional blocks across the new biomes. Mojang's full Nether Update breakdown lists the wider feature set by Minecraft Edition.
