Minecraft Level 30 Enchanting Table Setup Guide

Enchanting is one of Minecraft’s strongest progression systems, but the setup for level 30 enchantments is not obvious at first glance. You need the enchanting table, enough bookshelves, and the right spacing around it.

Materials for a Level 30 Enchanting Setup

A full level 30 setup requires two diamonds, four obsidian, 138 sugar cane, 46 leather, and 90 wooden planks of any type.

Diamonds

Diamonds generate at layer 15 and below in the Overworld, becoming more common the deeper you mine. If you do not already have a diamond pickaxe, gather three extra diamonds so you can craft one.

Obsidian

Obsidian can be made by pouring water over lava or found at a ruined portal. Mining it requires a diamond pickaxe. You can also check village weaponsmith chests or ruined portal chests for a chance to find obsidian.

Sugar Cane

Sugar cane grows naturally beside rivers, lakes, and oceans in many biomes. After collecting some, plant it next to water in an area that stays loaded while you play. Expand the farm each time it grows until you have enough.

Leather

Leather drops from cows, horses, donkeys, mules, llamas, hoglins, and mooshrooms. Four rabbit hides can also be crafted into one leather. A cow farm is usually the most efficient option because it also supplies food.

Planks

Ninety planks sounds like a lot, but it only takes 23 logs. Any wood type works.

Crafting the Books

Turn the 138 sugar cane into paper by placing three stacks of sugar cane in a horizontal line on a crafting table. This produces 138 paper.

Next, combine the 138 paper with 46 leather to craft 46 books. The book recipe does not require exact slot placement as long as the paper and leather are present in the grid.

Crafting the Enchanting Table

The enchanting table requires one book, two diamonds, and four obsidian. Place three obsidian across the bottom row. In the middle row, place one diamond, one obsidian, and one diamond. Put the book in the center slot of the top row.

The table can now perform lower-level enchantments, but it still needs bookshelves nearby to reach level 30.

Crafting the Bookshelves

Bookshelves require six planks and three books each. Place three planks across the top row, three books across the middle row, and three planks across the bottom row.

Repeat that recipe until you have 15 bookshelves. This uses the remaining 45 books and 90 planks.

Placing Bookshelves for Level 30 Enchants

The easiest layout is a five-by-five square of bookshelves with the enchanting table in the middle and one open block left as an entrance. The bookshelves should surround a three-by-three open space, with the table placed in the center.

The layout does not have to be a perfect square. What matters is that 15 bookshelves are within the five-by-five area around the enchanting table, up to two blocks high, with open space between the shelves and the table.

Once placed correctly, the enchanting table can offer level 30 enchantments. Bring lapis lazuli too, because Minecraft enjoys making every powerful feature need one more ingredient.
