Minecraft Fire Resistance Potion Brewing Guide

The Nether is dangerous, but fire resistance turns lava and blaze attacks from immediate disaster into something much more manageable. Here is how to craft a brewing stand, gather the ingredients, and brew fire resistance potions in Minecraft.

Craft a Brewing Stand

All potion brewing starts with a brewing stand. To craft one, place three cobblestone across the bottom row of a crafting table and one blaze rod in the center slot above them.

Blaze rods come from blazes, which spawn in Nether fortresses. Because blazes attack from range with fire, bring a shield and fire protection armor if possible. Collect more than one blaze rod while you are there, since blaze rods are also turned into blaze powder to fuel brewing.

Fire Resistance Potion Ingredients

1. Bottle of Water
2. Nether Wart
3. Magma Cream
4. Redstone

After making the brewing stand, gather the potion ingredients. Nether wart generates in Nether fortresses, so check the same fortress where you found blazes. If none is there, another fortress may be needed.

Magma cream comes from magma cubes, which can be found in the Nether, including basalt biomes. The magma cream is what turns an awkward potion into a fire resistance potion.

You will also need glass bottles filled with water. Glass bottles are crafted by placing glass in the left and right slots of the middle row, then one glass block in the bottom-middle slot. Fill the bottles with water before brewing. Redstone is used at the end to extend the potion duration.

Brew the Potion

Follow these steps to make fire resistance potions:

1. Place the brewing stand.
2. Turn a blaze rod into blaze powder and add the powder to the brewing stand as fuel.
3. Add up to three water bottles.
4. Add nether wart to create awkward potions.
5. Add magma cream to create fire resistance potions.
6. Add redstone to turn them into longer-lasting fire resistance potions.

Brewing up to three potions at once is more efficient because the same ingredient affects every bottle in the stand. Since Nether ingredients can be annoying to gather, making three at a time is usually worth it.

Once brewed, fire resistance potions make lava, fire, and Nether travel far less punishing. Still, try not to use lava swimming as your main navigation strategy.
