Cactus flowers can now appear in Minecraft, but growing them at home takes more than placing a cactus and staring at it politely. The process depends on cactus growth chances, open space, and a bit of patience.

Before growing cactus flowers, first find a cactus to bring back home. Cacti naturally generate in desert and badlands biomes. They can also appear as potted cacti in igloo basements, and cacti may be found in Trial Chamber entrance chests.
The simplest option is usually exploring until a desert or badlands biome appears, since neither biome is especially rare. If luck refuses to cooperate, the `/locate` command can point players toward a desert biome instead.
The locate biome command requires commands to be enabled in singleplayer. On multiplayer servers, the player using it needs OP permissions.

Once cacti have been collected, place them on sand in an open area. When a cactus attempts to grow to two or three blocks tall, there is a 10% chance that it will generate a cactus flower instead.
If the cactus reaches its normal maximum height of three blocks without producing a flower, it gets one final 25% chance to grow a cactus flower. When that final attempt succeeds, the flower appears as a fourth block on top of the cactus. If it fails, that cactus will never grow a cactus flower.

Cactus flowers follow the same spacing rules as cactus growth. No blocks can sit directly beside the spaces where the flower is trying to appear. Because of that, the best non-automated farm is an open field of cacti placed in a checkerboard pattern.
This layout keeps the farm compact while leaving every cactus enough room to grow. Once the cacti finish growing, at least a few of the 10% and 25% flower chances should usually succeed.
When harvesting, cut down cacti without cactus flowers first. Loose cactus flower drops can still be destroyed by nearby cacti, which is a deeply cactus thing to do. Clearing the plain cacti first helps protect the flowers you worked to grow.
