Minecraft 1.21 brought a small but memorable art update with five new paintings added to the decoration pool. Since paintings are selected randomly when placed, finding the exact one you want may still involve some wall-breaking patience. First, here is the recipe.

A painting is crafted with eight sticks and one wool block of any color. Fill the top row with three sticks, place one stick, one wool, and one stick in the middle row, then fill the bottom row with three more sticks. The final layout surrounds the wool block with sticks on every side.
Minecraft 1.21 adds five paintings to the existing painting pool. To improve the odds of placing a specific one, create a temporary wall space that only fits the painting size you want. Larger paintings cannot appear if the available area is too small, which makes the random selection a little less rude.

The first new painting is a four-by-four artwork showing a forest biome landscape with a pig. Longtime players may recognize the scene as pack.png, one of Minecraft's most famous landscape images.

This two-by-two painting shows two villagers standing together in front of a house. It is a Minecraft-style parody of American Gothic by Grant Wood, only with more noses and fewer pitchfork concerns.

The third painting is also two-by-two blocks. It depicts a pot, cake, and sunflower on a table. Its layout resembles classic still-life artwork, with one likely point of comparison being Flower Pot at a Table by Paul Cezanne.

The fourth painting is two blocks tall and one block wide, making it the narrowest piece in this group. It appears to parody The Cowboy by Frederic Remington.

The fifth painting is a one-by-one image of Minecraft's original rose. That flower was replaced by poppies in Minecraft 1.7.2, the same update that introduced proper rose bushes.
