How to Install When Dungeons Arise for Minecraft

Minecraft·May 20, 2026·17 min read

Overview

Minecraft already has villages, mineshafts, temples, strongholds, and a few other structures to stumble across. They are useful, but most of them stop feeling dangerous once players have decent gear. When Dungeons Arise changes that by adding huge dungeon-style structures across the Overworld, underground, and even in the sky.

The mod can generate haunted ships, giant towers, massive skeletons, flying builds, and other places packed with enemies and loot. It is a strong choice for servers where exploration has gone a little stale and players need something larger than another desert temple with two chests and a pressure plate.

Mod Details

When Dungeons Arise is owned by Aureljz on CurseForge, with diamondtown_ and LunaPixelStudios credited as authors. It is available for both Forge and Fabric, with millions of downloads across supported versions. The mod focuses on world generation, placing large loot-filled structures throughout Minecraft for players to raid, clear, or turn into bases if they survive the previous residents.

Download When Dungeons Arise

  1. Open the When Dungeons Arise page on CurseForge for either Forge or Fabric.
  2. Select the Files tab near the top of the page.
  1. Find the file that matches your Minecraft version and mod loader.
  2. Click Download on the right side of that file.
  1. Save the `.jar` file somewhere easy to find, since it will be needed for both the server and client installation.

Install the Mod on a Server

  1. Open the HolyHosting control panel and stop your Minecraft server.
  2. Find the game file or server software selector.
  1. Make sure the server is running the matching Forge or Fabric version for the mod file you downloaded.

  1. Upload the When Dungeons Arise `.jar` file into the `mods` folder.
  2. Wait until the upload finishes, then return to the main server page and start the server.

Install the Mod on Your Client

When Dungeons Arise must also be installed on each player client when joining a modded server.

  1. Install the matching Forge or Fabric loader on your computer.
  2. Open the Minecraft Launcher and go to Installations.
  3. Hover over the modded profile, then click the folder icon.
  1. Open or create the `mods` folder in the profile directory.
  2. Place the When Dungeons Arise `.jar` file inside that folder.
  1. Return to the launcher, select the modded profile, and press Play.

What to Expect In-Game

After generating a new world or exploring unloaded chunks in an existing world, you should begin finding new structures. Some appear above ground, some are buried underground, and others float above the terrain.

Large New Structures

The main attraction is scale. Many structures are tall enough or strange enough to be spotted from a distance, which makes exploration feel more rewarding. Pirate ships, mushroom settlements, towers, and flying builds can all appear depending on your world and mod version.

These locations can also become unusual bases once cleared. That said, clearing them first is the important part. The current tenants rarely hand over the keys politely.

Stronger Dungeon Threats

When entering one of these structures, expect more than standard hallway wandering. Some enemies are modified, including creatures that can hang from ceilings or swarm players in awkward spaces. Spawners are common, so charging into a room without torches, blocks, food, or backup can quickly turn into an inventory recovery mission.

Valuable Loot

Dungeon chests can contain strong rewards such as iron, diamonds, tools, and other useful supplies. This can give players a fast start early in a world or reduce late-game resource grinding. On heavily modded servers, that early boost can be useful, especially when other mods demand expensive crafting materials.

The tradeoff is balance. Some players may feel the rewards are too generous if diamonds appear early. If your server prefers slower progression, consider pairing the mod with configuration changes or world rules that fit your playstyle.

Final Notes

When Dungeons Arise is best for Minecraft worlds that need larger exploration goals. Many structures are easy to spot because of their size, while others, such as underground asylums or giant skeletons, take more searching. Once installed on the server and all player clients, the mod adds dangerous locations, better loot runs, and plenty of new reasons to travel beyond spawn.
