Minecraft already gives players a few major dimensions to visit, but the Nether and End can start to feel familiar after enough trips. Mystcraft expands that idea by letting you discover and create new dimensions called Ages. These worlds are reached through special books, and depending on how they are made, they can be calm, strange, beautiful, or extremely hostile.
The mod is inspired by the 1993 game Myst and has been downloaded millions of times. It supports Minecraft versions up to 1.12.2 and was created by XCompWiz, with credits to theCyanideX and HellFirePvP for art and maintenance work. With the right pages and books, players can alter details such as biomes, sky colors, blocks, and world behavior. Sometimes the result is a dream world. Sometimes the book is basically a very fancy trap.

Save the downloaded `.jar` somewhere easy to find. It will be needed for both the client and server installation.

Minecraft should now start with Mystcraft loaded locally. Every player joining a modded server will need the same mod installed on their own client.

If the server starts without errors, Mystcraft should be available in both survival and creative gameplay.
Before creating new Ages, craft a few important workstations and materials.

The Ink Mixer is used to make Link Panel Pages. These pages are required for the books that move players between dimensions.

The Book Binder is used to create Descriptive Books, which generate and open access to new Ages.

Ink Vials are another core material. They have two possible recipes and are used often, so keeping extra ink ready will save time later.
A Linking Book is one of the most important items in Mystcraft because it lets you return to the place where the book was linked. Create one before entering any Age. Without it, getting back can become a problem, especially if the new world is unstable or dangerous.

Open the Ink Mixer and place paper and ink inside. This produces Link Panel Pages, which can be taken from the output slot on the right.

Next, open a crafting table and combine 1 Link Panel Page with 1 leather. This creates an Unlinked Link Book. When you are in the Overworld, right-click the book to bind it to that location.

Open the book and check the left page. It should say Overworld. Making several Linking Books is a good habit, because they are the most reliable way to return home from an Age.

Place leather and 1 Link Panel Page into the Book Binder, then enter a name in the top-left field. If everything is placed correctly, the binder will produce a Descriptive Book.

Before using it, bring armor, food, tools, and at least one linked Overworld book. Mystcraft Ages are unpredictable. One may be peaceful and full of useful resources, while another may greet you with hazards immediately.
When ready, open the Descriptive Book and click the square panel on the right side.

The new Age may take a moment to load. After arriving, you can explore the world or use your Linking Book to return to the Overworld.
The server crashes after adding Mystcraft. Check that the server is running the correct Forge version for the Mystcraft file you uploaded. Also remove any mods built for a different Minecraft version, since mixed versions commonly cause startup crashes.
An existing world has problems after installation. Make sure the world, Forge, and all mods are for the same Minecraft version. Minecraft worlds are not reliably forward-compatible or backward-compatible with modded setups, so loading a newer world with older 1.12.2 mods can break things.
Mystcraft items do not work on the server. Confirm that the server is actually running Forge, then check that the Mystcraft `.jar` is directly inside the `mods` folder. After uploading the file, restart the server so Forge can load it.
Players get an error when joining. This usually means the server has Mystcraft installed but the player does not. Install the same Forge version and Mystcraft file on every client that needs to connect.
