Vanilla Minecraft has enchantments, potions, and a few mysterious mechanics, but it does not really turn players into spellcasters. The Magic plugin fills that gap by adding wands, mana, Spell Points, ranks, cosmetic effects, and more than 200 spells to a plugin-based server.
With Magic installed, players can fire projectiles, deflect attacks, summon lightning, unlock new abilities, and gradually move from beginner spell work into stronger ranks. It is a good fit for RPG servers, survival worlds that need progression, or anyone who thinks a normal bow is a little too grounded.
Magic is a Spigot plugin by NathanWolf with a long release history and a large player base. It supports many Minecraft versions, with builds available for modern servers and older releases through the plugin's version history.
The main features include:

If you need an older build, scroll to the version compatibility information on the plugin page. Older Minecraft versions may have separate download links through the version history or Bukkit listings.

After the restart, Magic should generate its files and become available in-game.

When joining the server, players may be prompted to download Magic's custom resource pack. Accepting it is recommended because it adds the intended textures and visual details for wands and spells.
If the prompt was missed or declined, the pack can also be requested later with:
`/getrp url`

Use this command to receive a starter wand:
`/mgive wand`
The wand is assigned to the player who receives it. It cannot be dropped like a normal item, but it can be stored in a chest if needed.
The starter wand begins with Magic Missile. This spell fires a fast projectile that deals damage similar to a basic weapon, making it useful against animals and common mobs. It has limited range, but it is quicker than closing the distance with a sword.

Casting spells uses mana, shown near the hotbar. Mana usually regenerates after a short delay, so players can keep fighting without managing a pile of extra items.
Spell Points are earned by landing hits on mobs. These points are spent on new spells, upgrades, and customization options. In short, mana lets you cast, while Spell Points decide how far your wand career goes.

To learn spells, right-click an enchantment table while holding your wand. This opens the Magic progression menu. Select the beginner spell category, choose a spell, then confirm the purchase with Spell Points.
New spells expand the player's options for combat, movement, defense, and utility. Some upgrades improve existing spells with more damage, range, or added effects.

Right-clicking with the wand cycles through available spells. By default, right-click moves one direction through the list, while shift and right-click moves the other direction.
Pressing `F` swaps to a second spell hotbar, which is useful for separating different spell types. For example, one bar can hold attack spells while the other holds defensive or utility spells.

As more spells are unlocked, the wand can hold only eight spells per hotbar. To rearrange them, press `Q` to move spell icons into the inventory view.

From there, drag spells around like normal items to choose what appears in the active hotbar. Press `Q` again when finished to return the wand menu to its normal behavior.

Magic ranks advance when a player collects all spells in a category. Moving through ranks such as Student, Apprentice, and Wizard unlocks stronger abilities and improves mana capacity or regeneration.
This gives the plugin a natural progression loop: fight mobs, earn Spell Points, buy spells, rank up, then become even more unreasonable with a stick.

The enchantment table wand menu includes several extra settings beyond spell purchases. Some are cosmetic, while others help players manage controls and organization.
Useful options include:
Many spells also level up through use. Depending on the spell, upgrades may improve range, damage, duration, or bonus effects.
Players cannot use Magic commands: Normal players may need specific permissions depending on your server setup. If commands are blocked, install or configure a permissions plugin such as LuckPerms, then assign the Magic permissions you want players to have.
Magic commands do not work at all: Run `/plugins` in-game or from console if available. If the command does not exist, confirm the server is running PaperMC, Spigot, or another compatible plugin loader. If the command works but Magic is missing, check that the `.jar` file was uploaded directly into the `plugins` folder. Restart the server after correcting the file location.
