Minecraft mods can turn a plain survival world into almost anything, from tech factories to magic schools to a place where the cows are probably up to something. The tricky part is managing all the launchers used by different modpack platforms.
MultiMC helps by keeping many modded and vanilla Minecraft instances in one launcher. Instead of bouncing between separate apps for every pack, you can sign in once, create an instance, choose the modpack source, and launch from the same place.
This guide covers installing MultiMC on Windows and macOS, adding your Minecraft account, creating a modpack instance, and handling a few common setup issues.
Before opening MultiMC, make sure Java is installed on your computer. This is especially important on macOS, where a missing Java install can stop the launcher setup before it really starts.
Go to the Java download page, download the installer for your operating system, then run it and follow the prompts. Once Java is installed, continue with the MultiMC setup below.

MultiMC should now open and be ready for instances.
The `MultiMC.exe` file is the launcher you will use from now on. Pinning it to the Start menu or taskbar can save a few clicks later.

After setup, MultiMC will open normally and you can begin adding modpacks.
MultiMC needs a valid Minecraft account before it can launch the game.

Most players should use the Microsoft option, since Minecraft accounts have largely moved over to Microsoft login.
An instance is MultiMC's separate profile for a specific Minecraft version, modpack, or custom setup. Keeping packs in separate instances prevents one pack's files from making a mess in another pack's folder.

Minecraft should start with the selected modpack loaded.
CurseForge packs may not import directly into MultiMC in some setups. If direct import is unavailable, install the CurseForge pack through the FTB App first, then return to MultiMC and use the FTB App Import option when creating a new instance.
This extra step is mildly annoying, but it keeps the pack structure intact and avoids manual file juggling.
Cannot sign in to an account
If login suddenly fails after changing a username, password, or account settings, open Profiles, go to Manage Accounts, remove the affected account, then add it again using the same login steps above.
Java error on macOS
A Java error during MultiMC setup usually means Java is missing or not detected. Close MultiMC, install Java from the official download page, then reopen MultiMC and repeat the setup.
Not enough memory
Some modpacks need more memory than the default allocation. Open MultiMC settings, go to the Java tab, and increase Maximum Memory Allocation to a value that fits your system. After saving, launch the instance again.
