How to Install and Play FTB Sky Adventures on a Minecraft Server

What Is FTB Sky Adventures?

Regular Minecraft survival can start to feel familiar after enough worlds. FTB Sky Adventures changes the pace by combining a skyblock start with a large Feed The Beast modpack built around quests, automation, magic, and ProjectE.

Instead of spawning in a normal overworld, players begin on a small floating island. From there, you gather resources, finish objectives, earn in-game currency, and slowly turn a tiny platform into a busy tech and magic base. Gravity still does its usual job, so watch your step.

FTB Sky Adventures is a Minecraft 1.12.2 modpack with roughly 196 mods. Its progression relies heavily on FTB Quests, while ProjectE helps with resource generation and conversion. Quest rewards often include money that can be spent on useful items through the quest book store.

Install FTB Sky Adventures on the Server

  1. Open your server panel and stop the server.
  2. Open your panel's version selector.
  1. Search for and select FTB Sky Adventures.
  2. Confirm the version change when prompted.
  3. Choose to generate a new world. This is recommended because the pack needs the correct world setup.
  1. Restart the server so the modpack can finish loading.

Set the World Type to Void

FTB Sky Adventures should use a void world. If this is skipped, players may load into the wrong world type or fall endlessly, which is not a great first impression.

  1. In your server panel, open the configuration section from the panel sidebar.
  2. Select the server settings page.
  1. Find the Level Type field.
  2. Change the value to `void`.
  3. Save the settings at the bottom of the page.
  1. Generate a new world when prompted, then restart the server again.

Install the Modpack on Your Computer

Every player joining the server must run the same modpack on their own computer. A vanilla Minecraft launcher profile will not connect to an FTB Sky Adventures server.

Windows

  1. Go to the FTB App download page.
  2. Select Download for Windows and save the installer.
  1. Run the `.exe` file and finish the installation.
  2. Open the FTB App.
  3. Go to Browse and search for `Sky Adventures`.
  4. Select FTB Sky Adventures, then click the green Install button.
  1. When asked for a version, choose `1.5.0`.
  2. Open the new instance and press Play.

macOS

  1. Go to the FTB App download page.
  2. Select Download for macOS and save the file.
  3. Run the `.dmg` installer and open the app after installation.
  4. In the FTB App, open Browse and search for `Sky Adventures`.
  1. Select FTB Sky Adventures and press the green Install button.
  2. Set the version dropdown to `1.5.0` when prompted.
  3. Launch the new instance with Play.

First Steps After Joining

After joining the server, you should appear on a small island with a large tree, a small structure, and a dried-up fishing hole. The pack gives you several systems right away, but the early path is easiest if you handle these basics first.

Create or Join a Team

Before progression opens properly, you need to be part of a team. Open chat and click the first [Click Here] message. In the window that appears, choose Create a New Team, pick a color, and press Accept.

Once that is finished, team-based features and quest progression should become available.

Use the Akashic Tome

One starting item is the Akashic Tome. Right-clicking it opens a menu of guide books for different mods in the pack. Choosing one changes the Tome into that book, letting you read mod-specific information without carrying a small library in your inventory.

When you are finished, left-click the air to change the Akashic Tome back to its normal form.

Follow the Quest Book

The Quest Book is the main guide for FTB Sky Adventures. It gives you goals that range from basic survival tasks to more advanced machines and resource systems. If you are unsure what to do next, the quest book is usually the least chaotic answer.

When you open it for the first time, look near the top of the screen for category icons. These separate questlines for starter tasks, food, weapons, farms, and other progression paths. Begin with the Getting Started quests before branching into the rest.

Complete Your First Quests

To start, select the money icon to view the first required task. One early objective asks for 16 oak wood planks, which you can craft from the tree on your island.

After the requirement is met, the quest should complete automatically. Click the reward to claim it, and the items should be added to your inventory.

Spend Quest Currency

Most quest rewards give some amount of currency. You can spend it in the final tab of the quest book on items such as spawn eggs, experience, mob farm spikes, and other useful supplies.

Many shop items are expensive early on, so avoid spending every reward immediately unless it solves a real problem.

Keep Expanding

From here, continue completing quests to unlock more resources, expand your island, and build stronger farms and technology. The pack can feel busy at first, but steady quest progress will point you toward the next useful goal.

Common Problems

I get an error when joining the server. This usually means the modpack is not installed correctly on either the server or the player computer. Confirm that the server is running FTB Sky Adventures and is fully online after restarting. Then make sure the player is launching FTB Sky Adventures through the FTB App, not a normal Minecraft profile. Also check that the client pack version is set to `1.5.0`.

I keep falling into the void. The world type was likely not set correctly before the world generated. Return to the configuration section, open the server settings page, and confirm the level type is set to `void`. Save the file, generate a new world, and restart the server. Existing worlds created with the wrong type may need to be replaced for the fix to take effect.
