FTB Beyond is built for players who want Minecraft to feel bigger without turning the whole game into something unrecognizable. It keeps the core survival loop intact, then layers in new tools, machines, crops, ores, villages, and world features that give every player a different direction to chase.
The pack works well for groups because it supports several playstyles at once. One player can build a comfortable base with extra furniture and farming options, another can mine for advanced materials, while someone else starts experimenting with machines and custom tools. Peaceful cooperation is optional, of course. Minecraft servers have a way of turning even a shared wheat farm into politics.
This guide explains how to install FTB Beyond in the FTB App, set it up on your Minecraft server, and get started once you join the world.
FTB Beyond was created by Feed The Beast for Minecraft Forge 1.10.2. It is a large modpack focused on an enhanced vanilla-style experience, with enough content to support exploration, tech, farming, custom equipment, and long-term base building.
Instead of forcing one specific progression path, FTB Beyond gives players a broad set of systems to use. That flexibility is the main appeal. You can keep things simple with stronger tools and better villages, or sink time into machines, resource processing, and chunk protection.
Before connecting to a modded server, the same modpack must be installed on your Minecraft client. The easiest method is through the FTB App.

If the pack struggles to load, increase the memory allocated to the FTB App before trying again. Large modpacks are not exactly known for being shy with RAM.
FTB Beyond can be installed from the server panel when the modpack is available in your panel's version selector. A new world is strongly recommended, since modded world generation needs to create its own blocks, ores, and structures.

For the cleanest setup, use a fresh server profile or empty server directory. Mixing modpacks in the same files can create conflicts that are painful to diagnose later.

When you first enter the world, FTB Beyond will look familiar, but not identical to standard Minecraft. Your inventory includes helpful starter items, and the item list on the right side lets you view recipes and item uses. Select an item to see how it is crafted or where it fits into progression.
The minimap in the top-right corner can be configured by pressing Period (.). This is useful for changing display options, waypoints, or map behavior.
Start by collecting wood, breaking nearby plants for food or seeds, and checking the recipe browser often. Many early items have new crafting paths, so guessing recipes the vanilla way will only get you so far.
FTB Beyond includes tool-building systems that let players create individual parts before assembling full tools or weapons. The basic workflow usually involves patterns, a Stencil Table, a Part Builder, and a Crafting Station.

Instead of making a standard pickaxe from three ingots and two sticks, you can create specific pieces and combine them into stronger gear. This becomes more useful as better materials become available, since each material can affect durability, mining speed, damage, or special traits.
Use the recipe viewer in your inventory whenever a part or station is unclear. It is faster than crafting by trial and error, and much kinder to your storage chests.

Mining is more varied in FTB Beyond because caves contain many ores beyond the vanilla set. You may find Silver, Resonating Ore, Peridot, Monazit, Yellorite, Uranium, and other resources while exploring underground.
These minerals are used for different purposes, including better tools, machines, energy systems, and advanced crafting. Iron, Diamond, Redstone, and other vanilla staples still matter, so do not ignore them just because the shiny new rocks have fancier names.
Smelt and store the ores you collect. Even if a resource seems useless at first, it may become important once you begin working with machines or higher-tier recipes.
FTB Beyond adds many craftable items, but tools and weapons are among the first upgrades most players notice.

Pickaxes, axes, shovels, and other tools can be made from a wider range of materials than vanilla Minecraft allows. Obsidian and rarer minerals can provide better durability or useful traits, especially when used in custom tool parts.
Even basic early-game tools can offer advantages over their vanilla versions, making them worth crafting before you commit to larger projects.

Weapons follow a similar idea. Better materials can improve damage, durability, weight, and special behavior. A Cobalt Broadsword, for example, is lightweight and gains momentum while swinging.
These upgrades are useful against hostile mobs at night, but they also matter on servers where PvP or base raiding is enabled. Check your server rules before testing a new sword on the nearest player. That conversation rarely improves after the first hit.

While traveling, you may spot small floating islands high above the landscape. These Slime Islands contain unique slime mobs and resources that are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere.
Some islands have slimes immediately, while others may need time before mobs appear. Because of their height and natural separation from the ground, Slime Islands can be used for mob farming, experience gathering, or even a secure sky base.

Villages in FTB Beyond are more useful than their vanilla counterparts. They can include specialized buildings, extra loot, and trading opportunities that help players jump-start progression.
A good village can provide food, shelter, tools, and early materials. Custom houses also make decent starter bases if you would rather renovate than build from scratch.
Village chests may contain minerals, useful blocks, food, equipment, or stronger tools and weapons such as Bronze or Steel gear.

Blacksmith buildings are often the best place to check first, but other structures can also hide worthwhile supplies. Searching multiple villages is a reliable way to gather early advantages before building larger systems at home.

Breaking grass and exploring the wild can reward you with many seed types. Cotton, Coffee, Canola, Industrial Hemp, and other crops can all support different crafting or resource needs.
Randomly generated crops are also worth collecting. Some help with food production, while others connect to later crafting systems. Set up a proper farm early so you are not depending on whatever snacks happen to fall out of the grass.
Once you have chosen a base location, claim nearby chunks to protect your work. FTB Beyond includes a team and chunk-claiming system through the inventory menu on the left side.

Create a team first, then open the chunk map and left-click areas to claim them. Claimed chunks are protected from explosions, which is especially useful for shared servers. To remove a claim, right-click the claimed chunk and return it to the wilderness.
If the server does not load FTB Beyond correctly, first confirm that the modpack was selected in the server panel and that a new world was generated. Existing vanilla worlds or worlds from other modpacks may not contain the required blocks and structures.
File conflicts can also cause failed startups. If the server previously ran another modpack, create a fresh profile or clean directory before installing FTB Beyond again. Manual installation is another option if the panel installation does not complete correctly.
If the FTB App fails to launch the pack, delete the instance and reinstall it. Allocating more memory to the launcher can also help, especially on systems with enough available RAM.
Connection problems usually happen when the player is not using the same modpack and version as the server. Confirm that FTB Beyond is launching from the FTB App, then check the server address, port, or subdomain for typos.
Crashes can come from bad installations, ticking entities, overloaded machines, or automatic farms. Restoring from a recent backup is often the fastest fix if the world was stable before. For ongoing lag or crashes, review modded server optimization settings and remove problem builds when needed.
