Installing OpenMod Plugins on an Unturned Server

Overview

A plain Unturned server can be fun, but public servers and long-running private worlds often need more tools than the base game provides. With OpenMod, you can add plugins for commands, kits, permissions, economy features, moderation tools, and other server extras.

If OpenMod is enabled on your Unturned server, plugins can usually be installed in two ways: by running the install command from the OpenMod plugin library, or by uploading plugin files manually through FTP. The command method is usually cleaner. Manual uploads are still useful when a plugin does not offer an automatic install option.

Install Plugins with an OpenMod Command

  1. Open the OpenMod plugins page.
  2. Find the plugin you want to install.
  3. Click Copy Install Command next to the plugin.
  1. Open your HolyHosting server panel and go to the Console tab.
  2. Paste the copied install command into the console, then press Enter.
  1. Wait for OpenMod to download and install the plugin.
  2. Restart the server, or run the OpenMod reload command from the console.

After the reload or restart finishes, the plugin should be available on the server. If the plugin adds commands, check its documentation for permissions and usage details before handing it to players like a loaded toolbox.

Install Plugins Manually

Automatic installation is recommended when available, since it helps reduce file placement mistakes. If a plugin must be installed manually, use FTP access instead.

  1. Download the OpenMod plugin file to your computer.
  2. Connect to the server with an FTP client.
  3. Open the Servers folder, then enter the folder for your Unturned world.
  1. Go to OpenMod, then open the packages folder.
  2. Upload the plugin file into this folder. If the download includes required libraries, upload those files as well.
  1. Restart the server, or run the OpenMod reload command from the console.

Common Plugin Problems

No plugins load at all: OpenMod may not be enabled. Open the server panel, go to the server customization settings, and confirm that Unturned OpenMod is enabled. Restart the server afterward, then try installing the plugin again.

Only manually uploaded plugins fail: The plugin may be outdated, incompatible with your current OpenMod version, or missing required libraries. Check whether the same plugin is available from the OpenMod plugin page with an install command. When possible, use that version instead.
