How to Install and Play Mowzie's Mobs in Minecraft

Mowzie's Mobs Overview

Minecraft already has plenty of creatures, from harmless farm animals to hostile cave problems with legs. Mowzie's Mobs expands that idea with highly animated enemies, rare creatures, bosses, and loot that feels worth the danger. Instead of simply adding more things to hit, the mod focuses on mobs with distinctive attacks, behaviors, and rewards.

With this mod installed, players can chase down diamond-bearing cave creatures, fight poisonous flying Nagas, steal an ice crystal from a sleeping Frostmaw, or challenge a towering Ferrous Wroughtnaut for powerful gear. The fights are not subtle, which is generally what you want from a boss mod.

What the Mod Adds

Mowzie's Mobs is available through CurseForge and was created by bobmowzie, with authorship credited to pau101. It supports several Minecraft versions, including older releases such as 1.7.10 and newer builds up to 1.16.5 depending on the file selected. Always match the mod file to your Minecraft and Forge version before uploading anything.

The main appeal is its collection of handcrafted creatures. Many are hostile, but some can be interacted with in special ways, such as trading with masked Barakoa villagers or growing a Foliaath yourself. Boss rewards can grant ice attacks, minion summons, knockback resistance, or a heavy axe with special abilities.

Downloading Mowzie's Mobs

  1. Open the Mowzie's Mobs page on CurseForge.
  2. Select the Files tab near the top of the page.
  1. Scroll to Recent Files, then choose View All if needed.
  2. Find the file that matches your Minecraft version.
  3. Press the download button on the right side of that file.
  1. Save the `.jar` file somewhere easy to find. You will need it for both server and client setup.

Required Dependencies

Mowzie's Mobs may need an extra library mod depending on the Minecraft version:

  • GeckoLib is required for most versions newer than 1.12.2.
  • LLibrary is required for the 1.12.2 version.

Install the required dependency the same way you install Mowzie's Mobs. If the server starts without it, the result is usually a crash log rather than a pleasant surprise.

Server Installation

  1. Open your HolyHosting server panel and stop the server.
  2. Find the Game File or server type section.
  1. Select the Forge version that matches the mod file you downloaded.
  2. Follow the setup prompts, then choose to restart later if prompted.
  3. Open the server's file manager or FTP access and sign in.
  1. Locate the `mods` folder. If it does not exist, create it in the main server directory.
  2. Open the `mods` folder and upload Mowzie's Mobs plus any required dependency files.

Once the files finish uploading, return to the server panel and start the server. If the server fails to load, check that the mod, dependency, Forge build, and Minecraft version all match.

Client Installation

Every player joining the modded server also needs the mod installed locally.

  1. Download and install Forge for the same Minecraft version used by the server.
  2. Open the Minecraft Launcher.
  3. Go to Installations and locate your Forge profile.
  4. Use the folder icon to open the Minecraft directory.
  1. Find or create the `mods` folder.
  2. Place Mowzie's Mobs and the required dependency `.jar` files inside it.

Launch Minecraft with the Forge profile. The client and server should use the same mod version whenever possible.

Notable Creatures

Mowzie's Mobs is best known for enemies that feel more like encounters than background clutter. These are some of the major additions.

Grottols are small crystal-covered creatures found underground. Catching or defeating one can reward diamonds, making them rare but valuable cave discoveries.

Lanterns drift through the air with a glowing appearance. Defeating one can grant a glowing effect, and its drop can be used for night vision.

Barakoas are hostile tribal mobs that attack players who are not wearing one of their masks. With the correct mask equipped, they can be traded with for useful items.

Barakoanas are stronger versions that lead groups of nearby Barakoas. They carry different weapons and usually arrive with backup, because apparently one problem was not enough.

Nagas are flying dragon-like enemies that circle above players and attack from range with poison. Keep an eye on the sky when traveling through their territory.

Foliaaths are carnivorous plants that blend into nearby vegetation before opening up and attacking mobs that wander too close.

Frostmaws usually appear in snowy regions. These huge beasts attack with ice and can drop an Ice Crystal. A careful player may steal the crystal while the Frostmaw sleeps, but waking it up tends to make the plan more complicated.

Barako, the Sun Chief, is the leader of the Barakoa. He uses solar and fire attacks, summons minions, and can be healed by those minions during the fight. Defeating him rewards the Sol Visage.

Ferrous Wroughtnauts are massive armored knights. Most attacks do not affect them. Wait until their axe becomes stuck in the ground, then strike their exposed back. Charging straight in is a fast way to become a lesson for everyone else.

Powerful Rewards

The mod's bosses and rare creatures are worth hunting because many of their drops have unique effects.

The Ice Crystal comes from a Frostmaw. It lets players fire a stream of freezing wind, freeze water, and lock enemies in ice. Its use time is limited, but it slowly recharges while carried.

The Sol Visage is dropped by Barako, the Sun Chief. It works as helmet armor and allows the wearer to summon Barakoas that defend them similarly to tamed wolves.

The Wrought Helm is dropped by the Ferrous Wroughtnaut. It functions like an iron helmet with knockback resistance and cannot break. Its main appeal is durability and style.

The Axe of a Thousand Metals is also obtained from the Ferrous Wroughtnaut. It is unbreakable, hits harder than a diamond sword, and has special attacks including a sweeping slash and a ground shockwave.

Final Notes

Mowzie's Mobs is a strong choice for players who want fewer filler mobs and more memorable fights. Its enemies are dangerous, but the rewards make the risk worthwhile, especially for groups that want boss-style progression without changing Minecraft into a completely different game.

Before starting a world or server, confirm the Minecraft version, Forge version, Mowzie's Mobs file, and dependency files all line up. Once everything is installed, players can explore caves, jungles, snowy biomes, and boss arenas with a much better reason to keep their weapons ready.
