Running Minecraft mods and plugins together has always been a little awkward. Mods usually change larger parts of the game and often require matching files on the server and each player's client. Plugins are lighter and usually run server-side, changing commands, permissions, economy systems, protection tools, and similar features.
Because mods and plugins are built around different systems, Forge servers and Bukkit, Spigot, or Paper servers are normally separate paths. Magma exists to bridge that gap.
Magma is hybrid Minecraft server software based on Forge and Paper. It allows a server to load Forge mods and plugin-style additions at the same time, without complicated workarounds. In most cases, setup comes down to choosing the right server software and placing files in the correct folders. Very elegant, at least by Minecraft server standards.
Magma is still actively developed, so compatibility can be limited. The commonly supported version is Minecraft 1.12.2, with newer versions depending on the current Magma release status. Always check that your mods, plugins, and server version match before switching a live world.
After the restart, the server should boot using Magma. Existing compatible mods or plugins may carry over, but it is still smart to make a backup first. Hybrid servers are powerful, but they are not magic tape for every possible mod and plugin combination.
Once Magma is installed, add content much like you would on a Forge or Paper server.
For best results, add a few files at a time and test between changes. This makes it much easier to find the exact mod or plugin causing a conflict.
Magma is useful when a server needs both modded gameplay and plugin-based management tools. It is especially helpful for Minecraft 1.12.2 servers that want Forge content alongside permissions, protection, economy, or moderation plugins.
Before using it on an active community server, confirm version support, back up your files, and test the mod and plugin list carefully. A little preparation prevents a lot of console archaeology later.
