How to Install Goblin Traders on a Minecraft Server

Minecraft·May 20, 2026·17 min read

What Goblin Traders Actually Does

Vanilla villager trades are fine, until you realize half of them are just emerald taxes for items you could craft in your sleep. Goblin Traders fixes that by spawning two new bartering entities across your world, each with randomized offers that frequently outclass anything a regular villager will hand you. Expect rare blocks, stacks of emeralds, and even enchantments that push past the usual level cap.

The mod is built by MrCrayfish, available on CurseForge for both Forge and Fabric, and supports Minecraft versions 1.15 through 1.19. It has racked up well over 13.3 million downloads, so you are not exactly betting on an obscure project. The HolyHosting panel keeps the installation process short, which is why this guide exists.

Downloading the Mod

Start with the mod file before touching the server.

  1. Open the Goblin Traders CurseForge page for either Forge or Fabric, depending on the loader your server runs.
  2. Click Files at the top to see every available release.
  1. Find the version that matches your Minecraft install.
  2. Hit the Download button on the right.
  1. Save the resulting `.jar` somewhere you will remember in five minutes.

If you are running Fabric, you also need the matching FabricAPI build. Grab it before moving on, otherwise the mod will refuse to load and you will be debugging for no reason.

Installing on the Server

With the file ready, head to your control panel.

  1. Open the HolyHosting server panel and stop the server.
  2. Scroll to the Game File section and open the dropdown.
  1. Confirm you are on the correct version of either Forge or Fabric.
  2. Switch to the file manager from the left side menu.
  3. Locate or create a `mods` folder, then step inside.
  1. Use the Upload button in the top-left and drag the `.jar` files in.
  2. Wait for the upload to finish, then return to the main panel.
  1. Start the server back up and let it load with Goblin Traders attached.

Setting Up the Client

The server is half the job. You also need the same mod on your own Minecraft install or the connection will get rejected on launch.

  1. Make sure the matching version of Forge or Fabric is installed on your launcher.
  2. Open the Minecraft launcher and go to the Installations tab.
  3. Hover over your modded profile and click the Open Folder icon.
  1. In the window that opens, find or create the `mods` folder and step inside.
  2. Drop the Goblin Traders `.jar` in there, along with FabricAPI if you are using Fabric.
  1. Return to the launcher and hit Play on the modded profile.

Finding the Traders

After you load in, nothing looks dramatically different at first. The new mobs only show up in specific biomes, so you have to go looking.

The Two Goblin Types

Goblin Trader

The overworld Goblin Trader hangs out in caves underground. It has a thing for apples and will pick up any that drop nearby. Bonus detail: they get knocked flat the moment you hit them, which is funny exactly one time.

Vein Goblin Trader

The Vein Goblin Trader lives in the Nether. Apples do not interest it, fire does not hurt it, and its trade list is noticeably stronger than its overworld cousin.

Trade Pools

Each individual trader rolls its own offers, so two Goblin Traders found on the same expedition can give you very different deals. The bigger gap, though, is between the two species themselves.

Wrapping Up

That covers the installation and the basics of where to find each trader. Goblin Traders is a small mod with a big effect on survival pacing, especially once you start pulling enchantments above the standard cap. Every trader you encounter has its own inventory, so it pays to check each one before moving on.
