Import Custom 3D Models and Images on a Hytale Server

Hytale·May 20, 2026·12 min read

Custom assets can make a Hytale server feel more personal, whether that means placing a server logo, adding a custom prop, or building with a model made outside the game. Hytale includes import tools for both 3D objects and images, but the files still need to be uploaded to the right server folders first.

Import a 3D Object

  1. Launch Hytale and join your server with an admin account.
  2. Open your inventory, then select Creative Tools at the top.
  1. Hover over World, then choose Import OBJ.
  1. Leave that menu open and switch to your server panel.
  2. Open your FTP client or file manager and log in.
  1. Upload your `.obj` file into the `imports/models` directory.
  1. Return to Hytale and use Browse to select the file you uploaded.
  2. Adjust the height and any other import settings, then click Import to Clipboard.
  1. Place the object with the Paste Tool or run `/paste` in-game.

Import an Image

  1. Join your Hytale server with an admin account.
  2. Open your inventory and select Creative Tools.
  1. Hover over World, then choose Import Image.
  1. Keep the import menu open and return to your server panel.
  2. Open your FTP client or file manager and log in.
  1. Upload your `.png` file into the `imports/images` directory. If the folder is missing, create it first.
  1. Go back to Hytale and choose the uploaded image from Browse.
  2. Change the max size and other options as needed, then click Import to Clipboard.
  1. Use the Paste Tool or `/paste` command to place the image in your world.

Using Imported Assets in Hytale

Hytale handles these imports through built-in Creative Tools, so no separate editor is required just to bring an OBJ model or PNG image into the server. The main thing is placing each file in the correct import folder before selecting it in-game. Once it is on the clipboard, paste it like any other build element. Custom objects and images are useful for small private worlds, public community servers, and anything in between. Even a simple logo beats a suspiciously empty wall.
