Want a lively Hytale base with farm animals, useful resources, and mounts ready for trips across Orbis? Taming is mostly about patience, preparation, and knowing what each creature actually wants to eat. A fence also helps, unless your farm plan is "watch everything sprint into the trees."
Most animals panic if you rush straight at them. Approach slowly, then interact with the creature to reveal a thought bubble above its head. That bubble shows the animal's favorite food.
Once you have the correct food, hold it in your hand and move closer. The creature should calm down instead of fleeing. Feed it, and it will stay near you long enough to be guided, captured, or moved into a prepared pen.
Before hunting for wildlife, build the place where they will live. A secure enclosure with fences and a gate keeps animals from wandering away after all the work of bringing them home.
Use these tools and habits to make taming easier:
Each tameable animal has a preferred food, and learning those preferences is the key to building a reliable farm. Favorite foods make animals easier to approach, while pens, crates, and feed bags help you manage them once they are near your base.
Tamed animals can make a settlement feel more alive and may provide useful materials, travel options, or farming support depending on the creature. Stock up on common crops, craft extra Capture Crates, and expand your enclosures as your collection grows.
A good animal setup starts simple: one sturdy pen, a few food items, and enough patience to avoid chasing the same creature across half the biome. From there, you can grow into a full farm, mount stable, or shared server ranch for friends to help manage.
