How to Use Tom's Simple Storage in Minecraft

Minecraft·May 20, 2026·9 min read

Tom's Simple Storage is built for players who are tired of opening twelve chests just to find one stack of cobblestone. Instead of turning your base into a hallway of wooden boxes, this mod lets you connect inventories into one searchable storage network. It works with Minecraft Forge and Fabric, and it keeps the setup simple enough that you do not need a degree in redstone logistics.

Tom's Simple Storage Overview

Tom's Simple Storage focuses on a few useful blocks instead of a complicated machine chain. Terminals give you access to the network, while connectors link chests, barrels, and other inventories together. Once connected, those items can be searched and pulled from one central screen.

The main idea is straightforward: place storage around your base, connect it to the network, then use a terminal to find what you need. Small starter rooms and oversized warehouse builds both benefit from the same setup. The bigger the mess, the more satisfying the search bar becomes.

Main Blocks You Need

Storage Terminal

The Storage Terminal is the main access point for your network. Right-clicking it opens a searchable inventory view containing items from every connected storage block. It feels similar to using a chest, except the chest is secretly your entire storage room.

Crafting Terminal

The Crafting Terminal is an upgraded terminal with a built-in crafting grid. It can pull materials from connected storage while you craft, so you do not have to load your personal inventory with ingredients first.

Inventory Connector

The Inventory Connector adds a nearby inventory to the network. Place it against a chest, barrel, or other supported storage block, and its contents become available through the terminal.

Storage Connector

The Storage Connector works like the link between your inventory connectors. Use it to route the network through your base, connect storage in different rooms, and bring everything back to one terminal.

Downloading the Mod

  1. Open the Tom's Simple Storage page for Forge or Fabric.
  2. Download the file that matches your Minecraft version and mod loader.
  3. Save the `.jar` file somewhere easy to find.

Fabric players also need Fabric API. Just Enough Items is optional, but useful if you want recipe lookup alongside your storage setup.

Installing on Your Client

If you use the default Minecraft Launcher, install Forge or Fabric first. Then follow these steps:

  1. Open the Minecraft Launcher and go to Installations.
  2. Click the folder icon next to your Forge or Fabric profile.
  3. Open or create the `mods` folder.
  4. Move Tom's Simple Storage and any required dependency `.jar` files into that folder.
  5. Launch Minecraft using the correct modded profile.

For CurseForge, Modrinth, or similar launchers, open your profile, choose the option to add content or install mods, search for Tom's Simple Storage, and install it from there. Dependencies are usually handled automatically by those launchers.

Installing on a Minecraft Server

The server must use the same loader type as your client, either Forge or Fabric. Once the server is ready, upload the mod files like this:

  1. Stop the server from your control panel.
  2. Open the server files through FTP or the built-in file manager.
  3. Go to the `mods` folder, creating it if needed.
  4. Upload Tom's Simple Storage and any required dependency `.jar` files.
  5. Restart the server.

Every player joining the server must also install the same mod and required dependencies locally. If the versions do not match, Minecraft will complain, and for once it will be right.

Build a Cleaner Storage Room

After Tom's Simple Storage is installed, you can turn scattered chests and barrels into one central storage hub. Start with a terminal, connect a few nearby inventories, then expand the network as your base grows. The result is less chest-hunting, faster crafting, and a storage room that finally behaves like it has a plan.
