How to Take a Timings Report on Your Minecraft Server
Please note: This guide applies to Spigot, PaperSpigot, and SpongeForge servers; it will not work for other server types. If you are unsure about what type of server you are running, check out this article for more information.
A timings report is a diagnostic tool in Spigot,
PaperSpigot and SpongeForge servers that provides a detailed breakdown of server performance. It is often used to determine which plugins, entities, or other elements are responsible for causing lag on your server.
Sometimes, our clients find it challenging to read timings reports. This is completely normal; at first glance, they may look overwhelming. Timings reports are detailed diagnostic logs that break down server performance.
How to take a timings report on Spigot/PaperSpigot:
1. Start your server and connect.
2. Make sure you have operator permissions.
3. As soon as you are experiencing performance issues on your server,
enter the command /timings on.

4. You will see a message appear in chat. After this message appears, wait at least ten minutes! The report needs enough time to collect accurate data.
5. After about 10-15 minutes, enter the command /timings paste.

6. A link will appear in chat; this is your timings report!
How to take a timings report on SpongeForge:
1. Make sure you have SpongeForge successfully installed on your server.
2. Start your server and connect.
3. Make sure you have operator permissions.
4. As soon as you are experiencing performance issues on your server,
enter the command /sponge timings on.
5. Wait at least 10 minutes before entering the command /sponge timings report.
Waiting 10 minutes provides us with the most accurate representation of where your server is not performing as well.

6. You will then see a link appear; this is your timings report!
