Picture The Walking Dead and DayZ stitched into Minecraft, and you have Crafting Dead. The modpack bundles a stack of zombie survival mods that flip the usual block-building loop into a desperate scramble for loot, ammo, and shelter. With friends on a server, it turns into one of the more memorable nights you will spend in Minecraft.
The pack is free, so you can pull anyone into the action who already owns Minecraft. No second purchase, no extra subscriptions. Spin up a server, share the modpack link, and your group is looting bodies and dodging hordes within minutes. Add ranks, kits, and shop plugins on top and it scales nicely from a handful of friends to a much larger community.
The pack ships with four maps, all detailed, expansive, and randomized enough to keep exploration interesting. Whether you have 5 players or 500, it holds up.

Crafting Dead pulls from games like H1Z1 and DayZ. Zombies are drawn by sound, so sprinting through a quiet town is usually a bad call. You manage hunger, thirst, and cold the same way you manage ammo and weapon durability: badly, until you find better loot. Bodies of logged-off players stay in the world and can be looted, alongside random corpses that spawn around the map.
Doors will hold zombies at bay, but the moment you step outside, expect a welcome party. The pack rewards careful play yet stays more forgiving than the harder survival sims it borrows from, which makes it a friendlier entry point if your group is new to the genre.
The client runs on Windows and macOS.
Once the download finishes, launch the modpack and connect to your server address from the multiplayer menu. After that, the only thing left to argue about is who gets the rifle.
